Promise Ring....?

Question

(so i'm pretty sure my boyfriend is gettin me one for christmas since it is coming up..but i'm not sure i'm ready for that...)
but my question is:

What is the true meaning of it?
or your opinion on a promise ring

and if he does give me one..how do i go about tellin him that i'm not ready for it..i would just tell him straight forward, but sometimes i can sound rude without meaning to..and i dnt want to hurt his feelings

A promise ring is just that, a ring that symbolizes a promise. A promise to do what, exactly? Well, that all depends on what the giver and the recipient can agree upon.

Some people use them to pledge abstinence. In my experience, people that feel the need to broadcast to the world that they are virgins tend to have a remarkably skewed view of what virginity is really about. They usually expect (or demand) greater respect from everybody else, believing that being a virgin means that you possess inherently higher standards, values, morals, or virtues than a nonvirgin. This is, of course, complete and utter bullshit to the highest degree. Virginity means you haven't had sex yet, that's it.

Some people use them as pre-engagement rings, as in "I won't promise to marry you yet, but I'll make a promise that I'll someday promise to marry you". I think it's a stalling tactic used by teenagers when they know they're not ready to make a real commitment, but would like to think that they are ready. Either get engaged or don't, quit pretending you're an adult when you clearly won't act like one and commit.

I clearly don't have a high opinion on them, but really, the promise ring can mean whatever you want it to mean, just make sure that you and your partner are on the same page about your relationship and how you feel about each other. And really, that's far more important than any Christmas gift.

Promise rings can mean a number of things. If your boyfriend is getting you one he should say what it signifies. I got my girlfriend one for her birthday and I told her that "I promise to always be there for you. I promise to hold your hand through all the tough times and catch you when you fall. Most of all, I promise to give you my hand, my heart, my trust, my all. I promise to love you with everything in me, baby, because you're my world." It all depends on what he wants it to mean.

Well I made a Promise to myself not have sex intell I get married and im 19 and I fellowed it pretty well.The meaning of it is you are promiseing to wait for that person.
