I wonder why even many pastors find it difficult to give a sermon on this topic-such as the ill-effects of pornography in a society and particularly in a marriage life.
And what topic do you think should be covered very often in a church sermon?

Sad to say most Preachers to-day seem to want to talk only of the Blessings of God when you pay your tithes and offerings.
They don't want to talk about the responsibilities that Christian men and women have in the conduct of their lives.
Most are to concerned with being politically correct, as opposed to the truth.

I'm Mormon, and at the risk of getting a lot of thumbs down, I'll mention that twice a year we have a General Conference over the course of a weekend. It seems like every year at least one of the at least 25 talks given concerns the evils of pornography and how it effects more than just the person seeing/watching it, but effects their wife/girlfriend, kids, family, friends, etc.
Also every fifth Sunday during one of our three meetings, our local congregational leader picks a topic that is of importance for the people in the congregation and either speaks on it, or has someone (a "SME" or subject matter expert) present information on it. During the last fifth Sunday meeting, the congregation that meets right after mine spent their hour with their Bishop/congregational leader speaking about pornography. Pornography is a real problem that effects more than just the viewer, and is a pernicious evil. I stopped watching the TV show Friends because it seemed like they talked about watching porn like it was nothing, as harmless as a Disney video. That bothered me.

Giggly, I've often wondered that too, even though I've never been Catholic. It seems like it would be a great way to get ideas for sermons.

There are ill-effects of pornography on a married life? What exactly would these be?

Actually- for most married couples, the opposite seems to be true. Watching two beautiful people have sex generally encourages the married couple to do the same... which has been well proven to be good for the relationship and marriage.

Pornography is frequently sermonized from the pulpits in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Of notable mention, Elder Dallin H. Oaks of the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles and President Gordon B. Hinckley have been outspoken against the pernicious evil of pornography and its effects on family lives.

The disease and addiction of pornography--even in the slightest edge called soft-porn--causes families to separate and individuals to relegate themselves to the gutter of humanity. It degrades women and brings man to a level of filth that dehumanizes all relationships.

I can't speak to other churches and denominations, but the LDS Church is most vocal against this evil.

No one can define what pornography is. Even a Supreme Court judge stated that he can't define it but he know it when he sees it.

It is also subjective. A picture may be pornography to one person but it is art to another.

If we are reminded how we should love they neighbor and doing good towards others, this world would be a better place - well if people did what they are told to do!

Here is a example of what should be taught about porn in a church setting, a link to a talk give by Gorden B. Hinkley, a prophet of God alive today, President of the LDS (Mormon) church. But look at it any way, you might like how he teaches and warns about porn.

The information found in the first of these links clearly shows the "ill-effects of porn of a marriage".

Vice is a monster of so frightful mein
As to be hated needs but to be seen;
Yet seen too oft, familiar with her face,
We first endure, then pity, then embrace.

(In John Bartlett, Familiar Quotations, 16th ed. (1992), 301.)

That's a good point. I have heard it preached about more often at men's retreats than at church, but I have heard it some. I do think it could be addressed more.

I think gluttony would be another one that needs to be addressed more. At least here in the U.S. I think we aren't taking care of our bodies like we should and Christians are a temple of the Holy Spirit.

there is nothing that can be done about pornography, it is covered under our constitution as legal provided that it is not performed or sold to minors, some may dislike it, but i dislike the fact that your church exists but you are free to go to it as much as you like, thats one of the good things about this country, let it be, just dont reinforce your childrens sexual desires to early and the they will be ok, pornography wont have ill effects on them.

Well, I'm Catholic ... and the Priests do talk about it in their homily. It's not every focus ... but addressed. I've often wondered if the Priest take an informal "Tally" of sins they hear in confession and address it as it becomes more significant. IDK ... think I'll ask.

Maybe because it's something many people feel uncomfortable talking about, especially with children around.

Just a guess, though.
