Hi:I have a vegetable salad everyday. Some call it a garden salad but it is the same, just a different name.Although fruit salads have a longer shelf life, vegetables are more sensitive to light, temperature and storage and in a salad form will wilt and brown in color so must be eaten shortly after it is made.Hope this clarifies this for you. It is a great appetizer, summer or winter. Nan

A salad is generally considered of being of the vegetable variety. However after people began using fruits to make a "salad", there had to something to distinguish between the two. Fruit salads are usually eaten as a light dessert or a snack. Garden salads are mostly eaten as entrees now.

There is - it is called 'Vegetable Salad' and it comes in a tin and is manufactured by that well known producer of foods Heinz (see link). I think the reason people say fruit salad is to differentiate between the two as most people when ordering a salad would expect a vegetable variety the fruit kind would not be very good with spag bol or chips

Of course there are vegetable salads. Salads are primarily made with veggies in combination with other things like croutons, olives, cheese, etc. Just about any imaginative combination of ingredients comprise a salad, and that includes, meats, fish and pasta, as well as fruits and vegetables.

A veggie salad is just called a salad, but we couldn't call anything else that because it would get confused so we had to add fruit salad so obviously "salad" was created first

Well, it depends on the person. I'm a vegetarian and a carnavor at times, but I would prefer the vegetable salad ANY day. I say so because I like vegetables :]
