He invented the idea of the Trinity. He thought of the trinity as being 3 personas, like 3 masks used in a Greek play.

it was tertullian who wrote 'credimus qui impossibile' ('we believe because it is impossible').

many modern day believers (especially protestants) unknowingly follow tertullian by believing things more intensely because they are so ridiculous. the harder a thing is to believe, the greater your faith in accepting it.

the sad thing is, that when tertullian wrote those words he didn't mean at all what people think he did.

but then when was christianity ever about understanding stuff?
