Seriously.
Picture the scene:
What if religion, including the idea of the higher power/entity behind it, the commandments/laws that the system of beliefs is based on, and the other components that make up each and every other belief were done away with or made illegal?

I include these aspects of religion because there would be no end to religion without doing away with the ideas that back it, otherwise people would just reorganize anyways according to these beliefs, right?

Is it possible, and what would the long term effects be?

How would people, governments, businesses respond to this change?

No one is really answering the question in it's entirety. Have you give it much thought?

I hadn't found out a coloration were abolished. yet, seeing how God created all human beings, i do no longer think of that's a stable theory to be thinking approximately abolishing faith. I recommend, hoe impolite, after he created this attractive planet for us to stay to tell the story, why could you even choose to? only considering the fact which you have not got faith in something, does not inevitably make it incorrect. Have somewhat recognize on your fellow electorate, all of us have the main suitable to have faith or no longer have faith what we could like.

The longer term effect would be that there will be less wars, less conflicts, less hindering of progress in the area of science. Society would be free of the shackles of religion. Many POSITIVE things WILL come out should that happen.

Impossible, and even if it could be done, people would simply defy the law. It's not as if law enforcement automatically puts an end to crime, after all.

In any case, no reasonable individual, religious or not, would want this to happen. It would be a human rights violation of the highest calibur.

the world will be in no order. people can get away with anything. people can burn your house or steal your possessions w/out losing sleep. nobody would bother.
people will challenge every existing law (if there were) because there is no basis for higher judgment except other people as equal.
if there were no religion, we will be left with 6 billion people confused as to what they are doing or why are they here on earth. and this goes on everyday of their lives until they get senselessly killed by their neighbor.

I truly believe that perhaps the greatest discovery of the 21st century will be that we will find convincing proof of other intelligent sentient life outside of our solar system.

Once contact is made with other worlds all theistic notions on this planet will be effectively challenged. Even still, I also believe that some will hold on dearly to their ancient beliefs regardless of what scientific research uncovers.

If you look at the governments around the world you will see that the ones removing a higher power from their contries have a higher crime rate. If there were no law coming God that said "do not kill" then killing would be acceptable. You remove the one who wrote the very first laws and all proceeding laws have no foundation with which to stand on, and the world will go to hell until all is set right again.

We've seen societies where religion was hugely oppressed and made illegal. The former Soviet Union was pro-atheism, anti-religion. Obviously, people still practiced it behind closed doors, but it didn't turn out too well for anyone, eh?

People themselves would go crazy. But it is a good idea. Religion holds us back. And those laws may have been at first, but they aren't thought of in that way anymore.

I would continue to worship Jesus Christ as the son of God until my life on this earth was extinguished. But then I would be with him in heaven for eternity and no one will be able to make me stop worshiping Him there!

Thats a silly question - people would practice their religion behind closed doors. No government could ever take my Bible away. I would probably do something thats non-Christian like to keep it!!
