Read these quotes from Dale Jr.

"I feel right now that Tony Jr. is very stressed out and has a lot on his mind. The last couple of months, since going to work there, the information has just been crammed into his brain," he said. "He could use a vacation. He knew when we signed on that we were going to kind of have to up our program a little bit, up our efforts. Jeff [Gordon] gave me a little bit of advice at the end of the season, that the work ethic might be a little more intense than I was accustomed to as a driver. For the crew chief, it's probably the same. Tony Jr. talks of 7 o'clock meetings every [morning]. He seems really stressed to me. His mentality is positive and focused, like he's going after it and attacking it. But you can tell he's in a new environment. There's just a little more going on that he's got to get in tune with."

They cheat by working the hardest.

The quotes came from the end of this article about JR Motorsports.

I couldn't wait to see the details of your question after seeing it. Some people will never give credit where it is due but there are many of us that knew this already. Just talk to ANYONE that has ever worked for Rick Hendrick and they all say the same things. He cares about and values his employees as much or more than anyone in the business. That also goes for all his other endeavors beyond racing. He also is smart enough to hire the brightest and most talented people he can find. With happy people all working together a momentum starts to build. They all push each other and strive to excel. They all want to be champions there and that means if one of the teams has success you look at that and try to emulate it. Surely they have some of the best drivers there are but THIS championship was all about outworking everyone else. HMS tested more and spent more than the other teams to be better prepared for the COT. Jack Roush got all worked up earlier in the season, saying that they "cheated" by doing the extra testing. Well, like many of the "cheating" allegations towards HMS it was just a matter of thinking of it first. Because they are not afraid to lead the way they will continue to get reprimanded from time to time. Many of their infractions were merely because nobody else thought to try and solve a problem the way they do. I wouldn't want it any other way. Keep the penalties and championships coming and remember who's going for 3 STRAIGHT IN '08!!!! Great question and article, thank you Beth.

Here's what they have learned, don't be afraid to test the "gray areas" of the rule book. Blatant cheating will get you in a heap of trouble but most of the things that HMS has gotten in trouble for are not clearly laid out in the rules. When Chad gets to problem solving outside of the box it makes NASCAR look stupid. They don't like that so they react with fines and suspensions. The one thing about Rick is he will back you 100% as long as you continually try to improve things, regardless of the consequences. Even when everything is going good at HMS, they don't sit back and take a break. They look for every loophole and advantage they can find whether that's with the cars or their testing. Rick is the driving force behind it all but he has assembled some of the finest racing minds and drivers that have ever been together on the same team. They and JGR seemed to have a distinct advantage in the earlier COT races but I don't think you will see either team dominate as much as they did last year. edit: mattywin, HMS did NOT use the new Chevy motor last year, that was RCR and DEI that made the early switch. They are using it this year though.

That article is on Nascar.com.. Everything was so laid back over at DEI, now Dale Jr and Tony Jr are with top notch organization, that works their behinds off, I'm sure he is stressed out, no play time over there its all about work and getting it done and getting it done right.. I'm looking forward to both of them working their behinds off next yr and win.. This is Nascar and everyone thinks just because you win you cheat, this will never change....HMS has the best people, equipment, technicians, engineers, crew chiefs, it works..

At first, I just thought that you were an idiot that was making one huge stupid statement but after having read what you wrote, I'm sorry for having thought that.

I do completely agree with you in the fact that the best teams are the ones that work the hardest and Hendrick Motorsports has definitely been able to prove that. Thanks a lot for showing all of the NASCAR fans this.

That's a great article.....where'd you get that from?

Top knotch organizations expect a lot out of their employees. It's apparent from the comments that HMS sets the bar quite a bit higher than many other teams. It's going to be interesting if Tony Jr. can hang.

Yeah, I kinda wonder how Rick Hendrick is going to deal with Dale sleeping so late in the morning. Those days might be over.

That is right.

Are all the Jr fans gonna say that Hendricks is cheating now if jr. Wins anything this year?

For the most part they are not. Gordon and Johnson were penalized for making modifications to the COT which were deemed to help the car. Before the race the car had to be corrected and the crew chiefs were suspended for 6 races, fined $100,000 and the owner and driver docked 100 points. Good work ethic is not cheating.

Thanks for sharing Beth. You've helped make a point and lent some teeth to the argument.
Championships don't happen by accident.
Cheating may help somebody sneak in a win or two, but that's it. Yeah, yeah, supposedly NASCAR is in on it, but if they were- would the 40+ non-HMS drivers stick around?
Don't think so.
