Stay Calm! Take your foot off the gas, Do not hit the brakes. This will may it worse (Know from exp.) Get a firm grip on the steering wheel and Steer into the skid. Then pray really hard. Evenutally the car will lose speed and come to a stop somewhere. If you are lucky, it won't be another car or the ditch. this happened when I was eighteen. It was raining the tires were bad. I ended up going the right direction and still moving in the right lane. I was lucky.

First of all hydroplaning is usually caused by worn tires. Keeping track of tire wear is the best way to keep this from happening. Hydroplaning is caused by water pressure building uo underneath the tire. To reverse the effect is to slow the vehicle down by slowly decelerating to the point that the tires make contact with the road surface.

What kind of car is it???? How many miles on it??? What brand of tires do you have??? Some cars are not as well-balanced as others. It's probably time to buy a better tire, like a Bridgestone or Michelin, that has better hydroplaning resistance. Also, make sure that your braking system is in like new condition with fresh brake fluid and that your brakes (abs or not) are functioning to the best of their ability.
