He was being a jerk. You were entitled to your change, and he was wrong not to give it to you, even if it was "just 4 cents." I think I would have said, "Better my piggy bank than yours!"
I had a friend who worked in a doughnut shop, who said that she was shocked when she realized that one of the clerks regularly short-changed customers a nickel here, a few pennies there, etc. People are in a hurry, just want their coffee and are on the way out, don't even pay attention to their change. When she closed out her cash drawer at the end of the shift, she just pocketed the overage, and was making a couple of hundred dollars extra a month. (She was eventually fired.) So when a clerk does that, I am always a little cynical.

Who cares he gave it back , and you were right to make him give it back a lot of store owners are doing that now , like when you buy something for .99 where the hell is your penny right ( LOL) I mean really whats a penny when its yours to say never mind keep it , but let me do that , Please people don't let them get away with this it's not a big deal but it can be. Girl he was being funny but the real funny part is that he try ed to keep 4 penny's put them in your piggy bank and smile.

Its the principle regardless if it was only 4 cents. Regardless, its your money and you deserve to get your change. It sounds like the postal worker was just a jerk and usually they are like that, kind of like the people that work at DMV.

Yes, I think you are taking it personally. I doubt if he was expecting a gratuity of four cents, and was probably momentarily distracted. He did correct his oversight by giving you the change, and probably tried to save face by making a light-hearted comment about it. It certainly wasn't worth your taking offense at such a minor thing.

He was probably on auto pilot and forgot to give you your change and then he tried to laugh it off like it was you who was being cheap. The post office does not need 4 extra cents to mismanage.

I would just consider that he had something else on his mind and was actually trying to make fun of himself!
In other cases, imagine how much you could make off of .04 cents per person over a week! Hmmmm...

Oh I hate it when people assume they can keep the change! Yes, he was patronizing you and being really rude about it. Next time have a quip ready such as, "You gonna use that four cents to get another one of those great hair cuts?" I know its shallow to insult someones appearance, but sometimes you have to sink to their level.

He was being a jerk, but don't let it get to you. You have every right to get your change back and it shouldn't matter how much it is. I hate that! Whenever anyone gave me grief for asking for my penny, nickle or whatever back, I used to tel them that I saved my change for charity, made 'em feel pretty foolish a lot of the time; I try not to lie like that anymore, though.

It sounds to me like he was making a joke. Forgetting your four cents was surely an error, and he probably wanted to use humor to distract you from his error.
But, I can see why you didn't think it was funny. Maybe if he had smiled, apologized and THEN said "put them in your piggy bank," it would have been funnier.

I was just reading a book and it tells you not to take anything personally. Maybe he just forgot or maybe he was just being rude.
Don't may any assumptions. Maybe he was just having a bad day and was out of it.
I think you should've told him not to be so rude. It was definitely out of line for him to make a snide comment about your piggy bank.
