A Franciscan and a Dominican were debating about whose order was the greater. After months of arguing, they decided to ask for an answer from God when they died. Years later, they met in heaven and decided to go to the throne of God to resolve their old disagreement. God seemed a bit puzzled about the question and told them he would reply in writing a few days later. After much deliberation, God sent the following letter:

My beloved children,

Please stop bickering about such trivial matters. Both of your orders are equally great and good in my eyes.

Sincerely yours,

God, S.J.

God... I'm so dumb. I totally forgot that Jesuits are correctly called the Society of Jesus (S.J)...

Is that a joke??? Where is the fun part??Isn't it rather a riddle??
I thought that S.J. meant: Senior Jehovah

S.J. stands for Society of Jesus, which is a different order than the two being discussed. In other words God was a member of the order called Society of Jesus.
Actually, a good joke.

S.J. is the abbreviation for the Society of Jesus, commonly known as the Jesuits. The Jesuits are life long students and teachers. Marquette, Georgetown and others are Jesuit universities.

PS I went to a Jesuit university.

The "SJ" initials mean that God is a Jesuit - a different order from the Franciscans and the Dominicans.

Maybe the funny thing about the joke is that God thinks both the Franciscans and the Dominicans are equally lame. I know I do.

I'm not a Catholic, but the joke is in the signature. Doesn't S.J. stand for "Society of Jesuits?"

God's a Jesuit in the joke, another religious order of the Papacy.

god signs himself s.j., meaning that he belongs to a different monastic order from either the dominicans or the franciscans (so obviously he thinks his own order is the best).

(try googling s.j.).

it is actually a very clever joke, and strikes at the root of christianity (though i doubt that people who tell it realise that).
