I would say the Pontiac G6 GT is the better deal.
And to the other poster that talked about Audi's, the only Audi's that are mechanically and electronically reliable are the ones that were made in the last few years. If you check Consumer Report's which you mentioned, and look at the ratings for Audi's from the 80's up to the late 90's, you will see that their scores are mediocre at best. Audi has great luxury and power, but they have so many cool gadgets that just dont hold up the test of time. For 12,000 dollars you cannot find a 2-3 year old Audi with only 30,000 miles on it, if you want one in decent condition. In that price range, you would be looking at a 5-10 year old Audi which is not going to be nearly as reliable as the new ones, will cost a fortune to maintain, and you will not be able to get very much money at all when you sell it.
If you can find an Audi S4 or RS4 with 30K miles or less for under 12K dollars then by all means by it, but the only ones in that price range will be flood victims and theft/accident recoveries.

If I was going to spend $12 or 13,000 on a car, I would buy neither.. Are you "hung-up" on GM products?? For that kind of money I could find two excellent used Audi's that are way better and safer cars than either that you have mentioned. Check consumer reports for comparisons and remember that European cars are designed to run relatively safely at speeds over 125 MPH and have better crash tests and more fun to drive. I would buy a 2002 Audi twin-turbo V6 in a heartbeat, and by-pas the "heartbreak" of America!!!

I'd go with the G6. It's newer, has less miles, and is only $1K more. The Impala is also a snooze mobile.
