Which army was the strongest in history??

Which army do you guys think was the strongest army the EVER existed in history??

Here are some:
The Spartans
The Macedonians
The Mongols
The French Army (During french revolution)
The Ottomans
The Romans
The Arabs
The Japanese

Those are just a few of the top armies that ever existed, but the question is, which one was the most powerful ??

For sheer power, probably the Romans during their heyday.

I notice you left the USA off the list. For the ability to project power throughout the world, nothing in history can rival the USA's ability to do that since WWII.

Well not to boast in the least and even though everyone hates us it's fairly evident that it is the US. As far as I remember, we beat the Nazis, with the help of Russia, Great Britain, etc... and then we stood up to the Soviets for several decades and we are still here as the primary military strength in the world and primary peacekeepers even though China is on the rise. Also since the advent of nuclear weapons, I don't think it makes sense to speak of any army as strongest in history that does not possess such weapons. I think the only other nation with an argument would be the Soviet Union... if the US hadn't joined the war I'm fairly confident they would have swept through Germany and all the way to Normandy themselves but we met them halfway or thereabouts.

If you ignore Alexander the Great and Attila the Hunn the most dominant military force ever assembled would in my opinion be the US at the end of WW2. The industry had ramped up production so much that they had aircraft carriers, planes and all manner of ships and tanks coming off the production lines along with well trained crew to man them all. They had the technology AND the numbers. With the atomic weapons as well the US could have conquered any force in the world at the end of WW2. Patton wanted to keep rolling through the Russians after VE-day didnt he? He probably would have done a better job against them than the Germans. You could have nuked any city in the world. I cant think of any nation with a military which has been so dominant ever.

This is tough one. In present history the strongest Army that has ever existed is the US Armed Forces. In terms of Force Projection, manpower and technology.. the US is first.

In the Ancient Age lets say before Alexander the Great Began his conquests it'd be the Persian Army

In the ages just before the fall of Rome I'd have to say the Roman army

In the time before the discovery of the New World I'd go with the Ottomans or the Mongols

In the time before the American Revolution I'd say the Spanish army due to their conquets in the New World

Between the American Independance and World War I I'd say Le Grande L'Armee or the British forces which conquered 1/4 of the Earth

But right now American is Number One for sure

Probably America or Russia, both were pretty unstopabble in their day, but I'd say the prize goes to America as Russia kind of quit, or, rather, took a 'time out'. America is still going strong.

The armies on the list all had their moments, but they were all ultimately defeated, though I will give the Macedonians credit as they did technically conquer the entire world, albeit only for a short period of time, and the (known) 'world' at the time was quite small, back when they still thought it was flat.

the romans. All other empires bowed before them. They still have reign today. (through the catholic church) The romans never lost their power. After the realization of the constant attacks from the normadic tribes. The romans decided to give up on conquring at the point in time. Along came christ. Then the birth of christendom. Council of nicene.

Though the romans do not have physical controll. They have mental controll over alot of people still, near almost have of the world pop.

The best army in history in terms of having the most killing ability and the ability to defeat other armies would be the US Army Today.

Today's US Army could defeat any army from any time.
