I have been assigned a project on the persecution in Chechnya.
I actually do not have any clue whatsoever of what is going on in Chechnya.

If anybody could give me just a slight background on what exactly happened or is still happining in Chechnya. And a website might be useful too.

Thanks!

Basically:

Chechnya is a province of Russia. Many Chechans want independence, and there was an attempted revolution. Russian soldiers invaded Chechnya, shelled the major towns, shot thousands of innocent people dead, and generally made a mess. To retalliate, Chechan terrorists attacked Russian airliners, a theatre in Moscow, and a primary school, killing hundreds of innocent people.

It's all a massive mess.

My advice is to post this in the Politics & Government Section. The problems over there are more political than religious.
