you can also try Royal Icing

4 cups powdered sugar
3 tbl meringue powder
6 tbl water

Beat all ingredients until icing forms peaks (7-10 minutes at low speed with a heavy-duty mixer, 10-12 minutes at high speed with a hand-held mixer). Recipe makes 3 cups.

NOTE: Keep all utensils completely grease-free for proper icing consistency.

* For stiffer icing, use 1 tablespoon less water.

or maybe try just regular Buttercream icing for a twist...

1/2 cup solid vegetable shortening
1/2 cup butter or margarine, softened
1 teaspoon Clear Vanilla Extract (or any other flavoring)
4 cups sifted confectioners' sugar (approx. 1 lb.)
2 tablespoons milk + more for a softer consistency

In large bowl, cream shortening and butter with electric mixer. Add vanilla. Gradually add sugar, one cup at a time, beating well on medium speed. Scrape sides and bottom of bowl often. When all sugar has been mixed in, icing will appear dry. Add milk and beat at medium speed until light and fluffy, if frosting is too stiff, add more milk, teaspoon at a time. Keep bowl covered with a damp cloth until ready to use. For best results, keep icing bowl in refrigerator when not in use. Refrigerated in an airtight container, this icing can be stored 2 weeks. Rewhip before using.

YIELD: Makes about 3 cups.

Just mix the confectioners sugar with a bit of milk, food color and some vanilla extract. Add the liquids slowly until you reach the consistency you are looking for.

2 lbs powdered sugar
2 Tablspoons vanilla extract
approx 1/2 cup milk

Use a fork or whisk to incorporate the milk fully into the powdered sugar. Also only drizzle milk in, adding a little at a time. If you need to add more, then add more; the half cup is a starting point.

10X sugar mixed with some milk and food color of choice will make a simple glaze...not too thin though and do not apply until the cookies have cooled!

I like both answers that the first and second person used...I do the exact same thing except I also add a little butter too.
