As an atheist, I don't believe in the bible etc, but...Mary somehow got a raw deal ( typical of putting down women ) Why did it take the vatican almost 2000 years. ( 1969 to be exact ) To finally admit she wasn't a prostitute. Also do you believe she was Jesus' closest apostle?

I personally don't think there is any more support for this Bible character's reality than there is for the character God... For me, the question is entirely unimportant. I deem it as academic energy wasted purely on a useless fantasy.
...But, why would the Vatican drag it's heels over this.? I'm guessing because it was viewed as a popular attitude of men and the path of least resistance.... and perhaps it drew in a few extra bucks on Sunday.
Bring on the video games... I'm bored.

You don't believe in the Bible, yet you do believe Mary Magdalene existed...? Hmm. Interesting.
It often takes the Vatican a looonngg time to do things - it's a bureaucracy and that can always be a managerial mess, with a lot of inefficiency.
I don't really think she got a raw deal -- she wasn't a prostitute and some people lied and said she was. She still wasn't! Not to mention that she inspired so many genius artists to paint beautiful and amazing portraits in her honor, in spite of what the church taught...!
I don't believe she was Jesus' *closest* apostle, but I believe that she was close to him and followed him, and listened to his words very intently.

I'm an atheist too.
Mary Magdelene is an interesting person. I watched a documentary that was produced by a legit Bible Scholar (and Christian!) who found evidence that suggests Mary was an important figure in the early church, almost as important as St. Peter. However, in a power grab, some Christians marginalized her to strengthen Peter's primacy.
It's not proven, of course. But the jury is still out on the historical MM and her ministry.
Let me go dig for some links.

The Gospels were written by ability of the adult men that helped created the Christian faith. tries to remove signs and indicators of Jesus' perception in equality for females and Judas being a religious disciple up till the end were carefully weeded out and in basic terms educate even as the Gospels are compared for inconsistencies. Paul change right into a Gentile with an time table that had little of no longer some thing to do with Jesus and his actually teachings.

1969? That isn't even near 2000 years. It is 1936 years at the most.

Because the church is stupid lol So are the people who follow it, but if you don't believe in the bible, then how can you even try to make sense of anything written in it.

I do believe that. I agree with you and think she got screwed by the church who wanted to suppress feminism by turning her into a whore.
