don't listen to people who say use neosporin or peroxide.
Get a shot glass or cotton pads and soak/put it salt water.
The salt draws out the pus and all the bad stuff in there, it also helps if it's warm for some people.
You can get H2Ocean at hot topic or piercing shops this is a sterilized Pre-made sea salt solution.
Or you can make your own:
"fill a fresh disposable cup with approximately 8 ounces of water and add ¼ teaspoon of sea salt, stirring until it is dissolved. When ready, either place the cup over the piercing--forming a vacuum-type seal. If either of these techniques are not possible, pre-soak a fresh tissue, cotton-ball, swab, or square in the sea salt solution and firmly press it on your piercing. In order to promote effectiveness, the first sea salt soak should last at least 10 minutes. All additional soaks should last at least 5-10 minutes. Following the sea salt soak, pat your piercing and jewelry dry with a fresh disposable paper or cotton product."

It is infected. Belly buttons are notorious for infections.
To clear up the infection you have to keep it clean. you can use anti-bacterial soaps if you wish to, some people have a sensitivity to them so plain old warmish - hot water and plain unscented soap like Ivory works as well. was the area and rinse it well. apply neosporin or polysporin to the area and gently twist the ring through the hole .. this ensures the ointment gets in there... Keeping it clean is the big thing. Periodically you willwant to take a Q-tip moistened with peroxide or alcohol or water even and clean around the ring and the hole. Puss will seep out and it will get crusty ..wash it off.. get rid of the gunk. keep working the ointment through it a few times a day.
Wear pants that are below the belly button, and loose tops so that you arent apply any pressure to the area. Dont play with it other than to clean it. Always make sure you have clean hands.
If it doesnt clear up you may have to go and get antibiotics from the doctor to help fight the infection. Or remove the peircing and try again after it has healed.
As I said, belly button piercings are common for infections because of the area they are in. It is not so open that it "breathes", there are tonnes of glands there and sweat is a factor... It takes awhile to heal as well. The main thing to do with a belly button piercing is keep clean !
There is also the chance of you being allergic to the metal the jewelery is made of. If you can afford it you can try switching to a gold ring and see if that helps. When doing the switch out.. go back to your piercer for help.
And really, for that matter .. if they are any kind of a piercer.. if you are having issues with your ring go back and talk to them about it.

It is infected. The same thing happened to me.
Get an antibacterial body wash, put a heating pad or a sports bottle filled with hot/warm water on it, and use peroxide (debatable, but I did it) to clean it up when you have puss coming out (I used to squeeze it out when it would get warmed up). Also use neosporin (put by the piercing and move the ring back and forth) on this so it will help get rid of the infection. This should help it clear up within a few days... if not, go back to the place you got it pierced or go to a doctor. You might have to take it out if it gets too bad.

If puss leaks from it sometimes, you probable do have a minor an infection. If i've got been you i could save cleansing it a minimum of two times an afternoon (with delicate products made for the two piercings or to disinfect injuries) and save hands OFF OF IT except cleansing IT. it incredibly is crucial as you may properly be putting micro organism onto the jewelry. If the an infection maintains to worsen, see the piercer and ask for their advice. good success :)

When i got mine done the pircer told me that i needed to clean it with sea salt daily. You should probably take it out though because it sounds like you haven't been cleaning it properly. Rub a crushed asprin on the area that is red to bring down the swelling. It works for more inflamed areas, even on blemishes. Keep neosporin on it after you wash it with ther sea salt. BE GENTLE!!

You need to keep cleaning it with alcohol, or whatever product they gave you, and try your best not to touch it, or irritate it. Even though when that happened me i would always squeeze all that crap out, and then it hurt like hell and would sometimes bleed. But mine is fine now, you just need to keep it clean. And dont change your belly button ring until it is not doing that anymore, because it well happen all over again.
