I'm 20 years old and live in vegas. I dont' drive nor have any desire to do so. My parents want me to drive badly because I go to college. Yet they never made an attempt to teach me themselves. My boyfriend has let me drive before and so have I with my friends. I find that I drive with very jittery nerves and I am no good at driving. I try to explain this to my parents, and they think it's ridiculous and that driving is easy. What should I do?

Learning to drive has made everyone nervous. It's something new and intimidating. Putting it off will not make it easier in the future. Do you want to have a license eventually? Do you plan to drive your future kids to soccer practice or ask other moms for rides? Don't put something off that will eventually need learned; just take the steps you need to be comfortable. Have someone take you to a more unpopulated area for some practice until you get more comfortable. Face your fear, don't run from it.

First off, you shouldnt be driving without a licence. Full stop! And you should stop getting lessons from friends. If you realy dont want to drive then you should tell your parents that. As an adult thay should respect your decision. And if you do, i think you should get some profesional lessons.

maybe driving gives you anxiety for some reason, hon? you can try to get to the root of that reason (if there is one?) and work on it IF you want to drive someday.

there's probably no hurry, just do things in your own time... even if people try to pressure you into this, don't let it get to you...

feeling safe and calmer driving may take time for you. we are all different, that's for sure... take care

Its really hard to get aroung any more without one. It stinks to have to rely on everyone else for a ride. Keep practicing, and you will lose your nervousness. It will get easier in time.
