By the fact that this verse isn't about a time table - but about the infinite nature of God.
(Don't you mean verse 8?)

The reason Jesus has not returned is because he is longsuffering and is not willing that any should perish. The Bible says that he takes no pleasure in the death of the wicked. But the Bible does promise that one day he will return for his church, those of who are born again or saved. Everyone else will be here for 7 years of the wrath of God, one man will rule the earth, you will have to take his chip, which is coming soon, we now have the technology, the Bible is being fulfilled everyday, when I was born there was no way one man could keep up with every person on the planet, now with satelites and the chip it will be no problem. Hope you are ready, Israel became a nation in the 1940's, there had to be one to be an end, we are definitely getting close. If you are left behind after the Rapture of the church it will cost you your life to saved, I would encourage you to get out your Bible and go to church, If you will give God a chance he will show you He is real, notice that everytime you see a cross it reminds you of Jesus, thats no accident. Think about, if you have any questions, send me an email, Good Luck!!

Did you read the text before that? It says:

"8) Because time has lasted this long is no indication that God has changed His mind. With God, time is not a factor--one day or a thousand years--it makes no difference in His purposes. 9) This doesn't mean that the Lord is slow in keeping His promises, or that He does things only when He gets around to it. Time has gone on only because of God's patience and kindness. He loves everyone, even the wicked, and He doesn't want anyone to lose out on heaven but to turn from their sins and be saved."

In other words He is waiting until every single human being on this earth has heard about God and given a chance to ask Him into their heart and life and be reborn in Christ. Evidently this hasn't happened yet. It will eventually though. Christian ministers of every faith are going all over this earth to tell people about Christ and about His love for them.

Once this is done He will come. We will endure the end-time plagues first, but He will come.

That's a vague verse, I'll do you one better: in Matthew 16:27-28 Jesus tells the people standing with him some of them would still be alive when the Son of Man comes on a cloud in glory to judge the living and the dead. So why am I still a Christian?

None of these people had perfect knowledge of God, inclding Jesus, who while on earth was made human in every way. He did not pop out of his momma full grown, nor was his life's purpose as an ethical teacher - his teachings are all found in nearly every great time-tested tradition.

The epistles are imperfect explorations in theological questions and complications arising from the new kinds of faith communities the early church was managing. I think they are far more valuable for historical and administrative analysis than they are for their theological robustness (which is fairly poor).

God and Christ both knew that His return would be in the fulness of times. He lived in what we call the meridian of times. There are certain things that have to happen before He returns. We are dealing with His time table, not ours. Time to us is quite different that time is to Him. You may not think that He keeps His promises quickly but to Him it is of little consequence whether it is a year or a century or a millenium. As for some living to see His return, John the beloved was granted the privilege of remaining on the earth until His return. Three of the Nephite disciples were likewise granted that privilege. Thus, there are at least four who are still alive for His return.

2 Peter 3:9
The Lord is not slow in keeping his promise, as some understand slowness. He is patient with you, not wanting anyone to perish, but everyone to come to repentance.

This passage is not talking about Jesus returning - it is talking about how God does not want anyone to perish, so He is patient in giving you, and everyone of a chance to come to know Him

I fail to see any connection between the two.

It says that God isn't slow in keeping His promises. But "slow" is a relative term, isn't it?

HOW long did it take God to send Jesus in the first place again? What's two thousand years to an eternal being?

It'll all happen in good time. Maybe God is taking so "long" to make sure that everyone has a chance to go to heaven.

Knowing this first: that SCOFFERS will come in the last days, walking according to their own lusts, and saying, “WHERE IS THE PROMISE OF HIS COMING? For since the fathers fell asleep, all things continue as they were from the beginning of creation.” 2 Pet. 3:3-4

It is written in the verse you quote: "God is not willing that any should perish, but that ALL MEN should come to repentance."

It is God's patience that is holding back the end of the world.

It is His love that is keeping Him from destroying the world and all those who have rejected Him so far for the sake of some who will trust, obey and love Him.

This verse speaks for itself. He doesn't want anyone to perish so he is acting in his own due time. He said that he will come when we least expect it. We will know the season but we will not know the exact time he will be returning. He doesn't want us to know this because if we remain in suspense we will be more likely to want to keep our lives free from sin and stay in the word, in prayer and in fellowship with other believers, etc. He wants to give us every opportunity to follow him before he comes back.
