I absolutely love Chuck E Cheese or bowling parties. For just 8 children a bowling party should be pretty inexpensive. Good luck!

Make your own cake to save money. If he likes video games...maybe you can set up his game system so that the kids can all take turns playing a round of something... The winner of the rounds gets a small favor maybe. Buy just a few decorations of his favorite character to stay under budget. You can buy solid paper cups and plates or whatever to match those few decorations. As a party favor you can buy the kids something from the dollar store. They really do have some cool stuff there.

If you have a fire department near your house hold it there usually they only ask for a donation no set price to rent their hall and the kids get to hang out with the fire trucks and firefighters some even offer rides on a truck around the parking lot.. My kids are girls and they loved it all the kids and parents said it was the best party they had been too.. I had pinata and lil finger food I didn't spend but $50.00..of course we had the party games and the fire deparment even helped fill the goody bags with fire prevention items ..

Chuck E Cheeses is always good or do a nice party at your house around 2 or 3 p.m. so the parents know you aren't feeding the kids lunch or dinner, just cake and ice cream. Go to DollarTree or the 99 cents store for decorations and prizes and come up with fun games to play. Good luck!

You can rent out a movie theater early in the afternoon. It's fairly cheap and you can get your kids to see a cool movie. And you can get away with serving pizza and popcorn.
Or you can try a roller skating rink. But that might be a girly thing. If all else fails, visit a local McDonald's. You might be able to get away with a McDonald's party at 7 years old. They are both cheap and easy.

I think the best I ever heard of was a woman who bought 5 old working polaroid cameras off me in a lot I sold on ebay.
I asked her why she bought them she said because her 8 year old was having a birthday party and they were going to do a scavenger hunt where they take pictures of the items.
I thought it was the coolest idea ever.
