And you thought you were due for a raise anyways. You know you deserve one.

Tell him or her that you deserve a raise based on your performance (cite examples). Good Luck!

At least he/she is offering you an incentive! I am in the US. This year my company (an international company) made smokers pay $600 more than non smokers for health benefits. That is if anyone covered under the insurance smokes (ie spouse who doesn't work there). You can get the $$ back if the insured smoker takes a smoking cessation class. If you lie about smoking or using tobacco (this covers chew too), you can lose your health benefits (for yourself and your famiy--the coverage becomes void) and/or your job. So, personally, I'd take the raise and tell him or her that you should get another $1 an hour for your performance on top of it! Good Luck!

Well you should get the raise because you worked to deserve it, that sounds more like a bribe to me. Granted smoking isn't very healthy however kind of tacky in the way he is offering it to you. What happens if you didn't smoke in the first place would you still be getting a raise?

I think your boss is doing you a huge favor. Quit smoking and take the money. And then ask for another raise because you think you deserve it.

Sue him and the company. If they can offer you an extra buck a day, they can pay for your smokes for the next 80 years, and your cancer bills if you get it.(sorry this is cynical, but I DESPISE people trying to talk or bribe smokers into quitting-just gets old after a day or so)

I'd take it and quit. That one dollar adds up! Besides, I quit smoking last year, so if I start back I know I'd be able to quit again.

You can do it!

I'd ask for the amount I was due and then the extra dollar! Seriously, though, that's illegal and he's setting his company up for a lawsuit.

it depend of you. do you really want to quit? is the dollar raise worth it? its none of his buisness if you smoke. and your raise should not be contingant on your own personal matters.
