I don't believe they are mutually exclusive. Don't sweat the small stuff means that it isn't worth getting worked up over minute details. In other words, pick the battles you can win. The phrase "It's the little things that count" means that small gestures of kindness or quality can make a world of difference in an indifferent world.

But you've made a good observation.

Not at all. The first is about worrying about things and the second is about enjoying things. Typically you don't worry about the beautiful flower on the side of the path and you don't sit and enjoy the light bulb that just burnt out...unless you like the dark and are deathly allergic to that kind of flower.

do not abandon small things (don't sweat the small stuff) for the small things do great things (it's the little things that count).

because great things start from small things. great things are segregation of little things.

just like what mother theresa said,"Love is doing small things with great love."

Not really...I think "practice makes perfect" and "no one is perfect" collide a LOT more. haha
