Yes, this is one way you know God is really your Father. If God does not correct you then you are not His child. Just think God corrected Jacob and did not correct Esau.

The Discipline of God

3 For consider Him who endured such hostility from sinners against Himself, lest you become weary and discouraged in your souls. 4 You have not yet resisted to bloodshed, striving against sin. 5 And you have forgotten the exhortation which speaks to you as to sons:

“ My son, do not despise the chastening of the LORD,
Nor be discouraged when you are rebuked by Him;
6 For whom the LORD loves He chastens,
And scourges every son whom He receives.”[a]

7 If you endure chastening, God deals with you as with sons; for what son is there whom a father does not chasten? 8 But if you are without chastening, of which all have become partakers, then you are illegitimate and not sons. 9 Furthermore, we have had human fathers who corrected us, and we paid them respect. Shall we not much more readily be in subjection to the Father of spirits and live? 10 For they indeed for a few days chastened us as seemed best to them, but He for our profit, that we may be partakers of His holiness. 11 Now no chastening seems to be joyful for the present, but painful; nevertheless, afterward it yields the peaceable fruit of righteousness to those who have been trained by it. All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness:

Yes, I have. At one time I thought that the sins that people do were by their choice only. I was corrected. I learned that we enter this world with a sinful nature. It is our nature to sin and our herritage. This is the reason that we need Jesus' perfect sacrifice for us to take our place for the punishment that we deserve for these sins.

The real and only choice that we have is whether to choose Jesus as our Lord and our Savior, or not. We can't be good enough or religious enough to deserve forgiveness. Only forgiveness can come through what He did for us on the cross.

To be corrected in righteousness means to be corrected in love. To be corrected as father would do to his child. It is first to be loved then be corrected in the truth of the word. It is to be corrected with the phronesis of God.
To correct some one in righteouness you must have the heart ofr the Father. Pastor Ransom.

Yes but it was done in a way that the one who was giving me the correction didn't make me feel stupid. It was like they were giving me advice.

Have you ever been told that quoting Bible verses holds no more moral sway that quoting The Iliad? If not, you have been now.
