It's human nature to stereotype. Although there are many true Christians out there, there are many hypocrites; this is true for any religion. But it also extends back into early Christian history, when the Catholic church preached poverty, and yet was the richest organization; preached acceptance but burned non Christians at the stake; preached thou shalt not kill, then went on the Crusades...for money, etc. Don't take it personally---be the best person you can be---only you have to face your conscience. We will never be rid of stereotypes.

I agree with you that many Christians do act in love a lot of the time. But I disagree that they strive to "always" better themselves -- some of us (Christians) think we're really, really good enough already.

A LOT of Christians throughout time have been mean, judgmental, exclusive, biased, and yes, hypocritical, all things which have damaged our credibility, as well as worked to make people shun the message from such flawed messengers.

We need to shape up, in a very big way.

It's because Christianity teaches that damn near everything is a sin, and Christians allign themselves with that, yet they then turn right around and commit those "sins".

I'm far from perfect by most standards, but since i don't go around claiming people are expected to be perfect, I'm not hypocrite (at least not about that).

We think you are hypocrites because this country was founded on the basis of religious freedom, yet Christians just won't let everyone else alone. By and large, Christians try to push religion down other throats and censor what doesn't meet their standards in terms of art, education, and entertainment. Christians judge others who aren't and often with a true lack of knowledge about what they are speaking. They are all too often one-sided, one-minded, and one-dimensional and believe that if individual's aren't Christian, they can't be good people. If you could just let people be, the rest of us wouldn't be so outspoken about it.

Fact: Most people are good people, regardless of religion.

Fact: Most people who are famous are not good people.

Fact: No matter what group you belong to, you're going to be embarassed by the people from your group who are famous.

We atheists understand that Jerry Falwell (RIP) was a sanctimonious *******, but he wasn't the norm. We get that, really. But he wasn't one of the most powerful voices in Religion and Government for no reason. If you really want to get rid of the hypocritical stereotypes, then as Christians work against the loudmouth idiots who are giving you a bad name.

Sadly hypocrites are everywhere!
But, let's face it, for a non-believer, it just makes the arguement so much simpler to just pont a finger and say, "Hypocrite" than to try to explain why they're really running from God.

"But most of us do try to help or do a pretty good job showing others that we care and love by helping."

Hm, and how do you define that? From what we see on here, most christians just like to throw insults, spew hatred, condescension and exclusionism.. how is this showing others that you care and love by helping?

Because the people whom you have put your faith in over the years have proven to be liars and hypocrites. Jimmy Swaggart, Jim Bakker, Haggard, etc., etc. are good examples.

Because Christians preach peace, but are possibly the most hateful group I know of.

You did explain your question... It was a good way to analyse it. They either want you the same level as you or lower then them.
Their envious because they know deep inside of them they know you are doing what they are supposed to be doing.
