Before a diagnosis of brian death can be rendered, hypothermia must be ruled out. Since body temperature is regulated by the brain, this means that a functioning brain is one of the prerequisites for a diagnosis of "brain death."

At least some of the "brain dead" still regulate the body's electrolye balance, an activity mediated by the brain. The brainstems of some "brain dead" individuals register measureable responses to visual and auditory stimuli. And at least some "brain dead" individuals have activity in the cerebral cortex which can be detected via EEG's.

Yes, excellent information. Now if you would get to the question...and more specifically the religious or spirituality question...we will all be happy to either answer or give a very sarcastic reply.

Your "third generation freethinker" title cracks me up. That means that your grandparents were "freethinkers", and your parents were "freethinkers"...so that just makes you a follower. Not so much free thinking going on to do that.

What's your point?

It's like saying that my car won't start, but the radio still works.
