I don't know who's been telling you that, but it's wrong. Being a Christian doesn't guarantee anything of the sort. Even most Christians I know accept this fact. Such labels are essentially meaningless, since people can call themselves whatever they want. Being Christ-like, on the other hand, is a different story altogether.

Because while lots of people are interested in studying those religions, Christianity is the most dominant in the US, and thus the one that gets the most attention. It's one thing to study a religion for personal understanding and another to try and understand a religion whose adherents have the power to impact my life. I ask and answer a lot of questions in regards to Christianity because I was raised Christian, gave it up, and live in a largely Christian country. It effects me therefore I am more worried about it than say Hinduism, which has little to no impact on me.

Any informed Christian would not label them self a "good" person, because they know it's fruitless.

"Good" is a label that varies according to the perceptions of the person hearing/reading the word. Nobody and nothing is inherently anything though, so don't sweat it.
