We paid for our own wedding. It was simple and informal, and cost under $1,000.

We paid for almost everything, the registrar fees, the reception, the food, the refreshments, the cake, the flowers, the bridesmaid dress and hair appointments, the groom and best man suits and shirts etc, the hotel for the wedding night.
My mother bought my dress as my wedding gift (£180)
We spent about £2000 (roughly $4000) for 45 guests and we also had some help from family, not financial help but practical help, like my uncle has a wedding car business, so he gave us a car for free, and my brother in law took the pictures, so that saved on 2 big expenses.

My fiance and I going to St John USVI to get married barefoot on the beach :) We will pay for everything and since I do not like weddings and think they are a waste of money, we are just inviting everyone to have a super fabulous time and I did not want a silly bridal party or stupid rehearsal dinners (I know b/c all of the weddings I go to are b-o-r-i-n-g) and then we plan on taking everybody on a sunset dinner cruise after the very *short* 10 min ceremony. I did buy a dress and him a nice linen outfit and super cute invitations and will probobly do a little something for the people that come so with everything said and done, we will probobly spend about $8,500 but most of that is airfare and villa rental and excursions

My mum paid about $2000 my mouther in law about $2000 and we paid about $4000.
That covered everything from the dress to the ribbon on the limo, with about 40 guests. In all it wasn't that much for a wedding but it was still a very nice and traditional wedding.
Ebay is a fantastic place to find a lot of the little things you will need.

My husband and I paid for our wedding. Since we had both lived on our own for a while we didn't need much so many of our gifts were help/stuff for the wedding. Everyone wanted to help so we let them. His aunt made our cake. Our friend DJ'd. Our families decorated. A friend took pics. My mom and sister in law made the girls dresses. A friend got us a discount on food. And friends from church catered. One friend brought a keg. Other friends supplied alcohol for mixed drinks. It was a group effort. We paid about $3,000 all said and done and it was an amazing wedding. The best thing was that everyone who wanted a part had one and we had a good time getting to know our new family members.

My fiance and I are paying for the majority of the wedding. Our parents are paying for a few things...but we want to do most of it ourselves.
Our wedding will cost us around $5000 or less. Having about 100 people.

My parents paid for a little more than half and we paid for the other part. All together our wedding was about $6000 including reception and was great! It was very simple and rustic - which suited us. I actually had a great time trying to make my dream wedding on a budget and it worked.
Good luck!

We are paying for our own wedding. No one is chipping in anything, but we are finding ways to cut costs and make it the wedding we have always dreamed of.

I spread it out. I convinced my parents to pay $3000 a piece max, and my fiance and I would cover the rest. My best friend's mom also offered to make the cake. I'm hoping I don't have to ask my parents for money and I can just do it on the super cheap, though.

My fiance and I are paying for everything ourselves.
We have saved money and sold some stocks, so we're not going into debt or draining our savings accounts.
Cost of wedding/reception in the US: $15K
Cost of reception in India (where he's from) $6K
