No believer would expect, or want for that matter, to be treated fairly by the unbeliever. They'd expect to be, and welcome, persecution.

Pick a televangelist and compare.
Elmer might have been fictional, but only in that he was a distillation of the revivalists of his time. The charlatans are still busy and are more profitable than ever since they discovered the use of mass media.

Don't know who that is.
But I see relatively few Christians preaching. And those that DO, often don't have time to practice what they preach, because their mouths are so busy. I favor the ones who just live quiet moral lives, and don't need to go about making proclamations...

I don't think ALL christians are any one thing.. that's a sweeping generalization that I just can't make.
I don't find many christians (and I've known hundreds of them) who can actually live what they preach.. mostly, it's a hypocritical belief system that sets its adherents up for failure.. and I base that on many many years of empirical evidence.

Considering the "Christian" programing in the media, it's no wonder that's the impression they have of Protestants. A lot of people think that all Christians are Catholic.

because there are enough examples in everyday life, and other Christians cover up for them because they are fellow members of the club.
Hypocracy is not a good marketing tool.

I think it's more than fair to compare most tele-evangelists to Elmer.
I do think that Lancaster was a brilliant actor.
