I currently have a Bose Lifestyle 25 I'd like to replace. The CD player broke and the "sub" is pretty weak. I'd like a system with 5 speakers, a decently powerful sub, and a CD player.

I already have a DVD player so don't necessarily need that.

My Bose cubes are all mounted either to the wall or ceiling. I'd like something with speakers about that size so I can use those mounts.

My wife and I aren't really picky or really techy. We just want something that sounds decent while watching a movie or playing Wii and that we can use to play music when we have folks over. We'd also like something that would use the existing ceiling and wall mounts.

I'd like to keep the budget under $500.

Was told my cube speakers would not work correctly if I just tried to get a sub and receiver.

You don't have to get new speakers. You also don't have to get a CD player if you have a DVD player.

All you really need is a new receiver and subwoofer.

I have a Yamaha receiver w/multidisc DVD player that doubles as my multidisc CD player. It's smart enough to know if the disc is a music CD or DVD movie. I just set the receiver for DVD, it figures out the rest.

The Bose cubes are great speakers, I wouldn't replace them if it was me. Just get a new sub.
