We are planning a medieval wedding and for the favors we are wondering for the women would you rather have an organza sachet filled with some sort of fresh scented potpourri or a lace handkerchief... the men.. either a letter opener in the shape of a sword or gold chocolate coins in a velvet pouch?

The reception will be held outdoors so there will be no issue with too much perfume

I would prefer a lace handkerchief. I bet the men would love the chocolate coins. Those are really cute ideas, and your wedding theme is fantastic. Congrats and good luck!

well i must admit i am now 'stalking' your questions, you have made it all sound so wonderful that its like a great novel, where you are wondering what the next chapter will hold!
so, as i have said many times, many ways, i am not a great fan of favors, however, if you have them then the chocolate is the better choice. pretty well everyone enjoys chocolate and the chocolate coins in a velvet pouch for the men and perhaps chocolate hearts or coins in a lace or silk or organza pouch for the ladies sounds perfect. of course thats just my opinion - i don't like potpourri and many folks are allergic!
keep us posted on how things are going!

I think the women would prefer a potpourri filled sachet (not too many women use handkerchiefs), the men would probably like the gold chocolate coins.

chocolate coins are the only ones that sound like something people would want.

1. potpourri - scents are personal and what you think smells beautiful I probably might think smells like butt. Besides that having a room full of potpourri, plus flowers, possibly scented candles, ladies perfume...etc. is going to make your reception reek. Ever walked into a room with too much freshner sprayed?

2. Lace handkercheif - what? who carries those? Plus reception is the happy period, not when people are balling. If you do this please don't embroider your wedding date or your names on them. I realize it's lifechanging for you but I don't want to walk around with somebody else's mongram on my stuff. Unless I'm your parent it's really just another wedding.

3. Letter opener - people are lazy. They aren't going to dig out your letter opener, they just use their fingers.

The point is that when it comes to favors if you can't eat it, drink it, or it isn't a charitable donation they are a waste of money. Guests will leave it behind....or if they are polite will trash them when they get home. People's junk drawers are full enough without adding to the collection. They will remember your wedding because of the good food, great music, drinks, and relaxing atmosphere.....not because you gave them an embroidered hanky.

The sword is such a cute idea. My husband got one years ago at a Renaissance wedding and we use it all the time!

As for the women, I'd rather have potpourri as I don't know anyone who uses a handkerchief anymore. Though you really could do the chocolate for them. I went to a wedding recently with handmade soaps that were very cute. Plus in your case, quite period as well.

I love Renaissance weddings. Originally that is what I was going to do for mine. Such a beautiful idea and the pictures turn out so fabulously.

All of your ideas are absolutely wonderful!! I love the idea of a handkerchief for the ladies, lots of happy tears will be shed on your big day, I'm sure! As for the men, I think the letter opener would be a very useful favor. Pairing the two together really would drive home the idea of fair maidens and heroic knights. What a great idea for your wedding - I wish I was that daring :)

I, personally, wouldn't use the hanky so I would prefer the potpourri and I'm sure my fiance would rather have some treats than an object (like another woman said). Congrats on your upcoming wedding, the theme sounds fun and original!

I would choose the lace hankercheif bc it is practical to keep in a purse. I really don't like potpourri.

And for men, I think you would be better off with the chocolate coins. Candy as a favor seems like it is always a big hit.
