I have had dozens of urinary infections over the past few years. After seeing countless general practitioners and gynocologists, I was referred to a urologist. He said that many women who are newly sexually active or who have a change in sexual patern often have these types of infections. He said that douching can cause urinary infections as can anal sex and wearing thongs. Bubble baths can also contribute to the problem. Some women have a rougher texture inside their vaginas which is more likely to trap the bacteria which causes these infections. These women are likely to have trouble with them throughout their lives. I take sulfer trimeth pills on the nights my husband and I have sex to help prevent the infections.

I agree with "OrangeFlameNinja". I'd also like to add to the list of causes. Wiping in the wrong direction (back to front) after a bowel movement, inadequate fluid intake, holding urine and because women have a much shorter urethra than do men, 3-4 inches as opposed to 6-7, we are more vulnerable and more prone to UTIs. What causes UTIs is bacteria.

bacteria getting into your bladder thru your urethral meatus.
this happens for a number of reasons, you wipe from back to front, you sit in a tub bath, you don't drink enough water, you don't change your underwear often enough...the list goes on and on.
