This cake recipe gets me rave reviews all the time....don't question the sour cream thoough, its really helps the cake and you can't even taste it once the cake is baked

Darn Good Chocolate Cake

1 pkg devils food or dark chocolate fudge cake mix
1 pkg (3.9oz) instant chocolate pudding mix
1 cup sour cream
1/2 cup water
1/2 cup vegetable oil
3 large eggs
1 1/2 cups semisweet chocolate chips

Preheat oven to 350. Prepare pans. Blend all ingredients on low for 1 minute. Stop, scrape down. Mix on medium for 2-3 minutes more scaping as needed. Batter should look thick and well combined.
Fold in chocolate chips. Pour into prepared pans. Bake 58-62 minutes.

I use mini chocolate chips, if using regular ones, LIGHTLY coat them in flour so they don't sink to bottom of cake pan

Chocolate Ganache

1 cup heavy cream
2tbs butter
2tbs sugar
12oz chocolate chips

In a sauce pan, combine cream, butter, and sugar. Bring to a boil. Take off heat add the chocolate chips
Don't stir, let sit for 5 minutes.
After 5 minutes pass, stir until smooth.
Maybe foamy from milk. Stir until smooth and glossy.
Let cool or pour on warm.

doesn't get any more chocolateier then this...

The Darn Good Chocolate Cake recipe is one of the best chocolate recipes I've ever come across. This the one I always make when using a cake mix. I've never had anybody not like it. The recipe comes from the Cake Doctor Cookbook. It is the of the best cookbooks I have. It is all about taking cake mixes and doctoring them up.with great results.

Target has gourmet cake mixes and frosting's in their stores. I also suggest the Trader Joe's grocery store. Check on line & see if there's one near you. They have the best stuff for baking including a ready made jar of deep dark chocolate frosting.

I swear by Betty Crocker chocolate fudge cake mix. I bake a lot and home made isn't better than this cake mix. Ditto to the Betty Crocker chocolate icing in a can.
