I think most are frauds, but there are some that work for various law enforcement agencies with very good results. The CIA and FBI employ psychics also, so there must be some merit to it.

Consider this... Most humans use at most about 10% of the brain. What do you think that other 90% might be capable of? My mother and I have a natural intuition, a psychic ability you could say. Two weeks before my brother died I dreamed that he died. I felt something was wrong with my friend and when I checked in on him he was having a seizure. Everyone is born with a skill or talent they are good at. Some people are amazing at math. Some are amazing at art. Some are pretty good at lots of things. I was born with the ability to see and feel energy. No, I'm not psychic all the time and I can't look at someone and see their future, but when I do get a psychic impression of something, I'm pretty guaranteed that is is going to happen. Just like any other ability, with practice you get better at it. You can practice opening up your own psychic ability with meditation, clearing the mind, learning to sense energy movements, practice with another person and have them picture a color in their head and not guess it, but try to read their energy and get the picture of it in your own head. The world of energy and intuition is a very interesting one, I suggest you try it out for yourself and see what happens. By the way, I'm Christian and I believe that my ability has come from God. I've even discussed it with my Preacher and he agrees. I don't believe that my ability is demonic in any way, though I do believe that some people tap into demonic power. But not all.

psychics fall under two categories. Professional psychics, and self-deluded psychics.
Professional psychics are fakes and use a classic trick called cold-reading to con people into believing they are devining knowledge from some other source.
Self-deluded psychics usually fall victim to something known as confirmation bias. That is they tend to look for things that confirm thier abilities, and ignore anything that proves they have no abilities. Because they believe in psychic abilities, they seldom get good enough to become professional.

In the end, nobody has ever been able to demonstrate psychic abilities to exist.

All those that claim psychic abilities are lying or are mislead themselves. If any person can prove that they really have ANY abilities, there is a $1,000,000 prize waiting for them. No one can do it. The famous "psychics" (John Edwards, Sylvia Browne, etc.) all claim that they don't need the money so they won't prove it (Sylvia Browne actually agreed to prove it while on Larry King Live, but has never actually shown any proof). But if they really had powers, why would they not just prove it, take the money and give it to charity.

That's an easy one: your future is crazy. No need for a psychic. It's a crazy world we live in.

If you want to avoid a false psychic, consider learning the methodology of shamanism. The gate to the spirit world is within you. I like the "The Way of the Shaman" by Harner, or just wiki shamanism and go from there.

Your life is crazy and you want to know your future?

The future is what you make it. If you have the drive, you should know what your future will be.

It is my opinion that anyone who charges an exorbitant amount of money for a reading is not psychic.

I think they are phony. I'm not saying they are all intentionally lying. Some may actually believe they have psychic abilities.

Simply where were they all the day before the tsunami? It was the scientists with their instruments that gave the little warning we had.

As real as it gets. Yet, you want to know something really awesome about our future. We have absolutely none. Want proof? Think, when all is said and done what does a human life amount to? Clue: A grain of sand is worth more than a human life.

as someone who does psychic readings , studied psychics and teaches others to do psychic readings
my advice to you would be ... not to rely on anyone to know your future
it is not set , it can change at any given moment , with a different thought ... sending you off in a different direction
if you wish to go to a psychic , make sure that they give you a good past reading before they move on to any future guidance
but keep in mind it is only guidance
