....Mind you, when you spend most of your time dossing in patrol cars or lolling around in the station waiting for pension day,...you need to be casualy attired!
The fact that the trials for the new uniform start in JANUARY!!, should give you some idea of what I,m getting at!

"Dossing in patrol cars or lolling around in the station waiting for pension day"?!

OK mate, the day you get burgled I take it you won't bother phoning the police as you obviously don't need them and are much more important. Police officers haven't had a payrise all year - and think about how much bills, petrol etc. have gone up - and now the Government have reneged on the pathetic 2.5% they were "kindly" going to give PCs, because they're refusing to backdate the "payrise" to September, which means that in January when they do get a payrise, the actual rise for will have been 1.9%.

Unlike the Fire Services and the Ambulance Services, the Police Service have no constitutional rights, no contracts and no right to strike. And you're griping about what they wear?

I really dont think it's a good idea actually. I think the uniforms are important in instilling a sense of superiority in the police.
Just as a point, our police force is one of the best in the world and it's not fair of you to speak about them like that. A lot of them get seriously injured or even killed in the line of duty so i dont think you should talk about them in that way. Just you wait for the day when you need them and then lets see how quick you are to call them!

It makes some sense if you are fighting a lot - less to grab onto. But the respect the uniform is looking for suffers when it becomes just another piece of clothing. They are now trying to uniform everyone "on the cheap" but I think the loss of respect on the street will cost them.
It also would make more sense in a tropical climate - not Manchester!

What a load of old rot! Police should have big sticks with which to beat the criminal fraternity. Whether they have t-shirts or a collar and tie, I don't care, just so long as they beat the gun wielding, spastic element of society into submission, then all is well.

The cops where i live, Glasgow, ditched the coller and tie ages ago..
They are now very hard to spot, if they dont want you to see them, as the full uniform is nearly black.
It does look a lot better though..

Just because the new items of uniform including combat style trousers and yes, t-shirts start to be trialed in January doesn't mean the t-shirts will be worn as outer clothing in January.

Manchester police are also issued with thick jumpers and fleece jackets, they don't wear them in July do they?

derr...

i look at it like this if i have to haul butt to chase down someone i dont need a suit and tie on. why not use t shirts. i work at the post office and we are going to t shirts for mailhandlers that do heavy work and unloading trailors. i am sure police do a heck of alot more then you described. i've taken the test for my area and fail the physical part with the run. now i am too old. but, respect people that put their lives on the line and dont know what each day holds to protect your freedom of speech and living.

you sure don't know much about police work do you.

but as to your first question the swat teams and other special forces wear t shirts or sweat shirts while on the job why not the regulars. wont be as noticeable as the uniform

Funny when you are safely behind a computer you are happy to spout off at us, i wonder if you would happily say the same stuff you do when face to face with a police officer

I would have answer your questions seriously but as you added the dribble at the end your question does not deserve my time.
