"The arrogant disregard for the holocaust visited upon the poor and working class Whites of Britain by the aristocracy continues in our time because the history of that epoch has been almost completely extirpated from our collective memory.

When White servitude is acknowledged as having existed in America, it is almost always termed as temporary "indentured servitude" or part of the convict trade, which, after the Revolution of 1776, centered on Australia instead of America. The "convicts" transported to America under the 1723 Waltham Act, perhaps numbered 100,000.

The indentured servants who served a tidy little period of 4 to 7 years polishing the master's silver and china and then taking their place in colonial high society, were a minuscule fraction of the great unsung hundreds of thousands of White slaves who were worked to death in this country from the early l7th century onward.

Up to one-half of all the arrivals in the American colonies were Whites slaves and they were America's first slaves. These Whites were slaves for life, long before Blacks ever were. This slavery was even hereditary. White children born to White slaves were enslaved too.

Whites were auctioned on the block with children sold and separated from their parents and wives sold and separated from their husbands. Free Black property owners strutted the streets of northern and southern American cities while White slaves were worked to death in the sugar mills of Barbados and Jamaica and the plantations of Virginia.

The Establishment has created the misnomer of "indentured servitude" to explain away and minimize the fact of White slavery. But bound Whites in early America called themselves slaves. Nine-tenths of the White slavery in America was conducted without indentures of any kind but according to the so-called "custom of the country," as it was known, which was lifetime slavery administered by the White slave merchants themselves.

In George Sandys laws for Virginia, Whites were enslaved "forever." The service of Whites bound to Berkeley's Hundred was deemed "perpetual." These accounts have been policed out of the much touted "standard reference works" such as Abbott Emerson Smith's laughable whitewash, Colonists in Bondage. ....."

Slavery Started a long time before that. You read about it in the Old Testament- Moses was freeing his people from Bondage- which is Slavery. There were no Christians at that time, Moses' people were Jews. Christianity came into play about the time of Christ, before him the Christians were Jews.

Slavery has been in existence since the beginning of the World.

Edit**
If you think Slavery is a thing of the past you are very wrong. Now it is still a practice in many nations of the world (mostly 3rd world non-christian non-white countries). It even exists in America to some extent. I believe the prostitution in all its forms, including Pornography is a form of Slavery.

Slavery is an economic issue...and pretty much always has been. It has been called a race, nationality or even a religious issue depending on who is selling who. For example, when Alexander was conquering the world, when he did conquer a country, some of the losers were put to death, some were put into his army and some became slaves...and Alexander didn't care which country or who.

When the Dutch slave traders were buying blacks from African tribes, they were buying the losers of one tribe attacking another...in other words blacks were selling blacks. The selling tribe didn't look at this as a race issue, only that they won, and those being sold lost.

Remember, back in the early colonial period, there were also indentured servants...people sold themselves into an almost slave status, for a specific time period based on how much money was involved. Often a family sold a child into indentured status. This was done to pay bills, pay off debts or for any reason they needed. Again, not a race issue, but economic.

Every great civilization since time began has had slavery at one time or another...Egyptian, Greek, Roman, etc., and at times religion did come into play...just ask the Jews about the Egyptians...or the Christians about the Romans.

Dear Od Ephram Cai,

First slavery is not a Christian thing. To be a Christian means to be one who follows Christ. Was Christ enslaving people or freeing people from slavery to sin?

In the course of history have there been things done in the name of Christ that were truly not of Christ? Yes. Look at Hitler (can we really believe that he believed in Jesus Christ- and was a true follower of Jesus- who preached about love for God and people?)

Slavery has always been an universal problem. Have white people been more guilty of it more than any other race-- most likely. But we can't say it's a "white idea." It's just agreeably a "wrong idea".

In addition i'm not sure what you're trying to get at with this question. Your quoting a law in 1680 which many of us might have learned in Elementary School. And whether we remember it or not- i think in the year 2007 most people should know by now that slavery of any kind is wrong! i myself am a Christian and i fight to free teens who are sold into prostitution in foreign countries...

My point is that i think people on this site know that slavery is wrong- and we should do what we can to free those who are wrongfully oppressed. Is that the purpose of your question or are you just trying to stir up some hatred towards Whites and Christians???

kindly,

Nickster

Yes, horrible culture.
Neither white, nor Christian.
People have hidden behind the skirts of religions to justify slavery for centuries. If the New Testament is read correctly, without a preferred leaning towards a "popular" choice, then slavery is not to be practiced.
Modern slavery happens too. In the industrialized countries, credit card companies are the masters. There are still slaves though, and this should be stopped.

If you're referring to slavery in the US, it was a white thing. But like someone else said, slavery in general was an ancient thing, and unfortunately it still goes on today illegally and it involves all races (mostly not in the US but I'm sure there are some young "housekeepers" in some rich houses in this country who were sold by someone back in the 3rd world). Don't forget, people like the Quakers were Christians and were opposed to slavery early on, so don't blame all Christians for it. (A rare moment of defending Christians for me.)

Considering that Churches were the first abolitionsits and that forms of slavery existed far before Christianity and among every ethnicity and race. I would say it is a human power thing, a human prejudice thing, a human selfish thing that has extends beyond any boundry of color or religion.

take a world history class and don;t use the word was, slavery still exists in many parts of the world today it is called human trafficking.

i bypass to anticipate you're bearing on slavery interior the U. S. and not the total background considering the fact that slavery pre-dates Christianity. As for the White vs. Christian. i could say this is the two. i'm specific in case you seek complicated sufficient you will discover slave vendors that weren't Christian or White whether it is going to likely be very, very few. From what I understand the perception replaced into God made white human beings greater suitable and that they had a real and duty to maintain slaves. considering the fact which you're in faith and spirituality i could % to state for the checklist that: this is one in each and every of a million explanation why human beings have this type of complicated time with faith. there are an excellent type of examples of religion getting used to justify absolute evil. background is complete of examples.

An accepted practice around the world for centuries.

Are most of the employees of Wal-Mart slaves? No doubt.

Btw, it was white Christians that freed the slaves. And many white Christians fought against slavery long before the Civil War.

2007-12-05 06:42:49 · answer #10 · answered by Anonymous · 3 0

It was neither white nor Christian.

Slavery was practiced by uneducated communities throughout history.

It was a practice in South America, Africa and Europe. Color of skin had little to do with it, until the Europeans started to conquer nations of color. Then they used skin color as a way to justify slavery, long after they knew it was morally wrong.

The bible treats slavery as a due course of living, and reflects it as part of life not morally wrong. Which shows that the morals that civilized society holds dear, don't actually come from Gods, but from reason.
