I think he is Christian.
He can say it no matter what his belief is.

St. Nicholas of Bari (also known as Sinterklaus in the Netherlands, hence "Santa Claus) was not only Christian, but the Bishop of Myra, as well. He is associated with gift-giving because he anonymously gave three bags of gold to a man whose daughters were about to be forced into a life of prostitution.
So St. Nicholas/Santa Claus has a perfect right to say, "Merry Christmas," since he was a Christian.

The real saint Nick was very Christian, as for the santas in the mall I would never let my kids sit on his lap! most of them are broke men looking for some money.

He is Christian though. Saint Nicholas of Myra a Catholic Bishop from the 4th century.
Alternatively Kris Kringle comes from Luther, meaning Christkindl (Father Christmas) in an attempt to draw people away from the Catholic St. Nicholas.
Santa Claus in the US has become an amalgamation of both (an actual mispronunciation of Sinter Klaus (St. Nicholas in Dutch) .
Either way, 100% Christian. Not real up on history are you?

Like most unbelievers you live in a fantasy world. Santa Claus comes from St. Nicholas. St. Nick gave presents of gold to young couples on Christmas. That is where Santa Claus comes from. Like most unbelievers you haven't a clue. Learn and understand!!!!!!!!!!!!!

How do you know he isn't christian? He is like other saints in the catholic church, (faith) so why don't accept him like a herald of the Christmas time? I'm catholic, but I don't see anything wrong having Santa Claus among our saints in our church. His history is of sanctity, never attempted to hurt the faith of any religion.
I accept him as one of our most beneficiary saint, specially when he is manifested in Christmas time bringing happiness to our children.
