Hi-
I am on many pain pills after just having had spinal surgery. Not taking them is not an option.

I take 3-4 stool softeners a day, 2 sennas at night, and 2 milk of mag tablets at night. This helped for 2 days - then the novelty wore off. I need several suppositories just to be able to go.

My doctor's nurse just keeps telling me to take up to 4 stool softeners a day. It's not working.

1) How's the best way to take the stool softeners - throughout the day, or all at once? Or take 1 w/ every pain pill?

2) Is there a prescription pill for this constipation I can take? Are my pills not 'tough' enough?

I'm in enough pain, I don't need this pain........

Thanks!

You can try Miralax. That just recently went OTC. You can try fiber supplements. There is also biscodyl.
The standard recommendation for opiate constipation is milk of magnesia and stool softeners.
Try Miralax, it is very strong, and should hopefully work.

Try adding a teaspoon of mineral oil to a cup of hot chocolate or a glass of milk. It works every time.....

Eat pitted fruits (prunes, dates, peaches, cherries) and Muesli or Granola cereal.

...and drink lots of prune juice. Really!

Good luck.
