Usually you join the reserves to work at a certain location. Mostly these are bases close to you, near your home town / where you live.
As mentioned in another answer you will have to go to BMT & Tech schools at active duty locations. Then you'll head back to your home base to do the job you signed up for.
Now say down the road you move to another state, you can still return to do your reserve commitment, I'm pretty sure you get remimbursed for your travel. (Have a friend who got out of Active Duty joined the Reserves then moved to CA but flew back to DE once a month to do the weekend training or to fly missions).
The following is information from a ANG person I worked with a long time ago(may be the same for the Reserves)...You may try to get a transfer to another state or area that has a reserve unit but you'll probably have to talk to both units and work out any details. They may not let you so you could be stuck or they don't have the same job you are doing now so you'll have to go to back to tech school to learn a whole new job. Also you may lose rank if your transfer is successful, knew someone who once was a MSgt in ANG but got a transfer to different state and had to go back down to SSgt since that was the only slot available. Again I know thats ANG but sometimes they do things the same as AFR.
Good luck.
This is from the AF Reserves website:
The Air Force Reserve has 36 wings operating in locations across the United States. In most cases, reservists are assigned within commuting distance of their home. However, depending upon the availability of the job you select and promotion opportunities, you may be required to select a base of assignment farther away than the nearest Air Force installation.

Your asking 2 questions a million. Can a coast shelter reservist enlist on lively accountability interior the Air stress -- definite thats possible, even though it is going to likely be confusing The AF purely approved 250 earlier provider enlistments for 2012, no telling how many they are going to authorize next year ( beginning on oct 1st ) 2. Getting a launch your your reserve unit -- thats fullyyt as much as his commander maximum reserve units won't concern a launch with purely a years provider - they paid all that money to coach you, they elect thier moneys incredibly worth. So your gonna ought to attend till Dec 2012 to be released 3, Your gonna have a confusing time, getting lively accountability in any provider branch from the reserves So be arranged to not get to bypass lively accountability you ought to initiate thinking approximately substitute profession plans

Drill location : yes. as for deployment or training: Nope.
in fact for the reserves you actually enlist for a specific location( as opposed to a specific job). what jobs you can get are based on what that Reserve Unit needs

I hope you know going active duty will never happen if you go reserves first. As far as drill you can pick your main station, however when you deploy its not up to you.

For reporting, yes. You can choose your base.
For training, you have to go to San Antonio.
For deployment, you follow the orders of those appointed above you. (ever sworn in?)
Good luck and thank you!
PS, I'd go active duty.
