He/she walked in a complete circle around the earth. And, he/she was about 5' 9" tall.
His/her feet traveled 2 * pi * the radius (R) of the earth.
His/her head traveled (2 * pi * R) + 36
His/her head had to be 2 * pi * (R + X) feet above the ground:
2piR + 36 = 2pi (R + X)
2piR + 36 = 2piR + 2piX
Subtract 2piR from both sides:
36 = 2piX
Divide both sides by 2pi
36/2pi = X
36/6.28 = X
X = 5.73 feet
0.73 * 12 = about 9 inches
His/her height = 5' 9"

He climbed up and down a ladder, 6 times, he was 6 feet tall, each time he reached the top, the top of his head was 6 feet higher than his feet, 6 times that 6 feet, means his head went 36 feet further than his feet did, when he was done. Each time he came down just short of the ground, the last time to the ground which was where he started.

The earth is a sphere. So if he traveled in one direction he went in a circle. Since his feet are closer to the core than his head, the circumference of his feet was 36 feet less than the circumference formed by his head which was farther from the core.

maybe he walked on the earth, which is curved, which means the head moves farther than the feet. think of a radial line coming out from teh center of the earth. as it moves, the farther parts from teh center move more.
