Caffeine is certainly a drug and it is an addictive drug as well. It is a moderate stimulant that taken in small amounts tends to make us more alert and often raises mood. In large amounts a person can have insomnia, nervousness and irritability. The drug affects your central nervous system which raises your heart rate and blood pressure.
It is an addictive drug and therefore if a dependent person quits they will experience several symptoms of withdrawal. The withdrawal syndrome for caffeine is head aches, cloudy thinking, nervousness, irritability, insomnia, and increased emotionality. These symptoms usually last for a few days to a week and are accompanied by feelings of craving.
Caffeine is included in coffee, tea, some soda drinks, and some medication to speed up and increase its effectiveness. In small amounts the drug can be beneficial, but in large amounts adverse effects are noted.
In general when someone does something in a moderate fashion it indicates an absence of a problem, and when someone is obsessed with something or over does it then there is usually a good reason for it. It is possible that if you use way too much soda then you have a primary addiction for one of the substances in that soda. A primary addiction means that you have taken too much of a drug over too short a period and therefore your body craves it simply for that reason

You probably can't. There is nothing addictive, only addictive people. Some people can watch a stupid horse go around in a circle once and be financially ruined for life, hopelessly addicted. Others can wind up in a hospital for long periods under morphine 24/7 with no withdrawal symptoms at all. Besides, addiction is the probably the least fun there is.

Yes, you can get addicted to coffee..Its not hard to do actually. I used to be against drinking coffee but when I was a a nursing assistant on 3rd shift that was all I drank. I can't imagine a day going by without a good cup or more of coffee...I say BRING ON THE CAFFEINE! :)

Whatever you do... do not get addicted to anything. Coffee is a type of been that originated in South America. It was cultivated by the numerous ancient tribes. They drank coffee only in ceremonial activities. Like many of the herbs that were cultivated by Native Americans, coffee was and still is abused (as in being addicted.) The reason you feel a 'burst' of energy when you drink coffee, is because of the nerves in your body being stimulated. When nerves are stimulated too much, they can get damaged. Damaged nerves result in deep aches and pains, mind fogginess, memory loss, and stress. I would not recommend getting "addicted" to coffee. Your friend is probably trying to make sure you are okay. Drinking excess coffee is definetely not good for your health! :-( Please, whatever you do, do not get addicted to anything.

Well coffee contains the drug caffeine and like all drugs its addictive. So like smoking, if you start you will become addicted eventually. Have you ever heard people saying, I could do with a cup of coffee! Caffeine makes you alive and alert so like any drug it has withdrawal symptons. Obvisoulsy not as much as major drugs but just drink quite a bit and get into a habit of drinking it and soon you'll be addicted!!

I agree it is addictive. I did try to get caffeine out of my life yup i dealt with the headaches but I was able to do it. but I did realize as I got older I have a lack of energy and having 4 kids to run after I needed the boost. so I am back on it. I think just showing this responce may be proof enough without doing it yourself.

Yes you can. Drinking 8+ cups a day is considered to be problematic. Signs of addiction include irritability, the shakes, disrupted sleep patterns and sluggishness without the caffeine.
It's a toxic substance that can cause a number of problems including heart problems and erectile dysfuntion, so you're obviously a bit odd if you actually desire these symptons.

Yes, it's not addiction like other stuff though. You just get massive headaches if you don't get caffeine. I work at a coffeeshop and I get coffee headaches at 11 am if I haven't had any caffeine.
If you really want to try it, just start drinking, but it's really not that much fun, and it's really bad for your heart to have that much caffeine all the time.

Sure you can. Caffeine is addictive. May not affect people as much as some other "drugs" but anything you ingest into your body over a long period, usually on a consistent basis, can be addictive. Chocolate, for example.
So what did we win? And when do I get my share?
