ok... i have to do a major project on gettysburg ... and i was wondering if anyone knew any really specific factual information because i am completely lost. Also if you know of any websites that would be very helpful. It is pretty much the broad topic of the whole battle and all the strategies and who won and the problems and what the battle was about... all of it pretty much.

Thanks so much :)

OMG Ashley! This was a three day battle in the middle of a four year war that was a turning point. There are around 10,000 books on the subject. If you want one source it should be 'The Gettysburg Campaign: A Study in Command' by Edwin B. Coddington. It will answer every one of your questions about GB but I warn you it is not an easy read. It is fascinating though and very accurate.
Watch Ted Turners movie "Gettysburg" for an overview and to build some interest in the subject. It is a long movie but entertaining and quite accurate.

Simplest thing to do is Google Battle of Gettysburg and all sorts of reference will com up. I don't think any veterans of that one are here for more specific or personal observations.
J.E.B. Stewart wasn't there either but J.E.B. Stuart was; key to the battle was Lee's hesitation on the first day which allowed the rest of the Union forces to arrive. To answer part of your question the Confederate forces lost to the Union forces.

J.E.B. Stewart wasn't able to communicate to General Lee and that was the key to the defeat.

OK, I was an a**hole about this... I'm giving away a book idea I had, here...Lo Armistead (CSA) and Win Hancock (USA) were best friends from West Point, and Armistead literally died in Hancock's arms. It's a great story, and it could and should be told.
