She used to walk at the park with me every day, but now she hates being outside. It is between 5 and 32 degrees f outside. I am worried about her not getting enough exercize, and being depressed without walks. What do I do?

Get your Dach some booties and a coat - it's COLD outside. You wouldn't go outside without proper clothing!
Dachs weren't bred as cold weather dogs.
You can probably use the exercise too!

I have a 3-year-old dachshund and he hates going outside when it's cold or rainy outside. We got him a sweater and a jacket to wear outside and he does alright with those. If we lived where it snowed, I would look into buying him some of those booties to cover his feet. It sounds like your baby feels the same way mine does. One thing you should keep in mind, animals have fur and they have paws made for being outside. They adapt. Also, it's good to play with her inside by throwing toys and letting her run to get them. You'll both stay warm that way and she'll still be getting exercise. Honestly, I think the only time that Dachshund's are depressed is when you aren't petting them and giving them your undivided attention. :)

You can walk her around the house, take her to a Pet store where they allow animals and walk around the store. Dachshunds are tiny and usually don't have much body fat, so they get cold quickly. I am sure she gets some exercise playing with her toys, etc. You may want to get her some warm doggie clothes and those little dog shoes and see if she wants to go. But, she will be fine - its only for a couple of months and then you will get out again.

Get her a sweater if you haven't already. My dachshund has a tshirt for when it's mildly cool and a sweater for when it's cold. He doesn't like to go out when it's cold AT ALL except for business. Just play with her inside. She'll probably enjoy that just as much. We leave the sweater or shirt on Bosco all winter and only take it off at night when he's snuggled in bed with us. He loves it. When it's time to put it on he comes running and pushes his little head through the hole. It's cute.

nothing! if its that cold outside she could get sick. i have a dachshund too. She also loves being outside just like yours does but when it gets cold she loves to stay inside and play. So just try to play with her around the house ( for about and hour or so) and when it warms up again she be back to her daily walks with you. you have nothing to worry about.

She should be fine indoors. She should get enough exercise just running around the house. But if you feel like shes not, Chase her around the couch a few times and she'll love it. As long as you give her some attention, which they love, she won't get depressed being cuddled up with you at home.

Small dogs can catch pneumonia easily in that type of weather. There are coats and sweaters made for them, but really it is best especially for the toy varieties of dogs to stay inside in the bitter cold weather. Small dogs get plenty of exercise in the house especially if they have the run of the house. Toys don't need much exercise, really. Even a room is probably fine.

The pet shops sell the fake grassy area for small dogs to use to relieve themselves when kept strictly inside. I understand that these grassy doggie bathrooms are fairly easy to maintain and not smelly. Best wishes!

Invest in a snow jacket and boots for your Dachshund. Continue to walk her daily but minimize the time frame of the walks since it is very cold.

It should be fine to keep her in, I have a 16 year old mini long haired dachshund and she does not like to go for walks, i leave her in the garden to go toilet, and she seems to get enough exersise running around the house and garden.
