eating is not just taste and nutrition.
Eating is also psychological. "Comfort food" brings us to a "comfortable" safe place, hence we feel better.

I don't think it's complicated enough to have a source. There are certain things that trigger memories, and memories have certain emotions tied with them. Just like comforting songs make of think of certain people and remind us that we're not alone, I think comfort food is comforting because, especially with ice cream, it's a childhood treat. The warmth of parents and a home, and a carefree life, all of that subconsciously, or consciously sometimes, comes flooding back. Also, I think there is a ritual element to it. We eat ice cream when we're sad and it is supposed to make us feel better, whether or not the ice cream actually does anything to us the act it self is comforting, and therefore we are comforted.

Oh what a question. Why does people blowing their nose make us shudder? It just is how it is. Ice cream is delicious, and focusing on the deliciousness makes us forget the crappiness that was happening before the deliciousness sank in. Sure, "one moment on the lips forever on the hips," but if it's good it's good....That's why it's called comfort food. It's seriously comforting. That's one reason why there are so many obese people around.

properly, it relatively relies upon on the convenience foodstuff. a lot of people circulate to ingredients mum and dad might make for them for particular events or ritualistically while they have been young babies, or they decide for ingredients they do no longer normally consume, and make their very own particular party. component to that's recapturing a satisfied 2nd or a cushty 2nd in existence, which in turn cheers them up. On a dreary raining day, i like to make Bigos, because of the fact my mom might make it while i replace right into somewhat baby, and it might heat up the completed homestead, and it replace into tasty. this is no longer something I consume on a daily basis, because of the fact no person sells Bigos, and the Bigos I even have got here across, on party have been the crappy u . s . version with the noodles and gross meat.

We connect the food with events in our past that were comforting. It is a way to go back to a better time.

Eating food stimulates nerve centres in the brain, different foods stimulate different centres, some of these nerve centres are pleasure centres & therefore stimulate "feel good" hormones/chemicals such as dopamine, seratonin, etc.
