Or maybe lose weight?

I am a freshman in high school and, i am taking a health class.
My teacher told us that if you eat a less number of calories than you burn off in a day, you'll lose same weight.

Lets say i burn 2500 calories a day
A big mac is 540 calories
4 big macs is 2160 calories

Could I eat 4 big macs a day and lose weight?!

If so, why doesnt everyone do this! OMG i'm goingg to have so many girlfriends

No...you'd be consuming too much fat.

You asked if you ate NOTHING EXCEPT FOR ONE BIG MAC PER DAY, what would happen. Well what would happen is you would lose weight pretty rapidly. A Big Mac has only 540 calories. So you would be eating only 540 calories per day and most people need about 2000. It would not be a healthy way to lose weight, in fact it isn't enough calories.

are you hypthetically speaking when you say you burn 2500 calories a day? I am assuming you lead very active lifestyle? If a big mac is the ONLY thing you eat during the day (no snacks, and extras,) then I would assume that ou might lose weight... But the thing is that big macs fill one up easily but don't really keep you feeling full for long, hence, you'd probably want to eat more later on... and, honestly speaking... what's a big mac without fries and coke? I don't k now... but that's my two cents

You teacher is right, but if you lose weight like that your body will suffer from not getting the proper balance of nutrients. You will lose weight you may also lose bone mass from lack of calcium. You could have skin problems, low iron, high cholesterol, constipation. So many bad things can happen to your body if you don't get the right nutrition.I lost about 50 lbs doing something similar.I only ate a little everyday under 1500 calories a day.But it was all crap food.Pizza chips, candy, etc. Then I developed colitis,an intestinal disorder.I was so depressed I ate and ate.I gained 106 lbs in about a year.Because my body was lacking alot of nutrients from crash dieting that weight is hard to lose.Over the last 8 months I've lost 86 lbs. I exercise for 45 minutes a day I eat low fat high fiber foods and I don't count calories.I pay attention to them but I don't obsess over them.I cheat once a week and take my daughter for pizza but now instead of 10 slices I have a salad and 2 slices. The only healthy way to lose weight is to exercise and eat well. You can have four big macs for 2160 calories or you can eat fruit and veggies till you cant eat anymore and you still won't have consumed that many calories

the basic premise to weight loss is indeed that if you burn more calories than you eat then it doesn't really matter what those calories are coming from. ((however, this won't fly if you are trying to get down to a certain body fat % or plan on becoming some kind of athlete or body builder.)) the problem is that big macs are NOT very nutritional at all. so you would be starving your body of many essential nutrients by only eating big macs all day. not to mention they are FULL OF unhealthy fat which will increase your chances for cancer, arthritus, heart disease and hypertension.

You might not gain weight, but you will become sick very easily and will probably become very pudgy.

Oh, and if you drink your soda with it or eat fries, you will go over 2500 very quickly ( a 32oz soda has 450 calories) and then you'll gain weight.

So, having a vitamin deficiency, love handles, and a weakened immune system are the side effects. That's why people don't do that.

It may be below your required daily caloric intake, but not a very balanced diet. Your teacher may have told you what s/he did, but should have explained that a balanced diet is the healthiest. Big Macs are very high in fat and if you eat like that for a while, you will start having other health problems. I wouldn't recommend it.

You can't just consider calories! Look at how many fat grams and how many saturated fat grams a food has as well!

One big mac has 29grams of fat which is about 50% of what you need for a day. That means if you ate 4 big macs then you would be getting 200% of the fat that you need for a day (twice too much). One big mac also has 10g of saturated fat which is 50% of the saturated fat that you need so if you ate 4 big macs then you would be getting 40g of saturated fat which is also TWICE as much as you need a day.

there is a lot more to fat loss than cals in vs. cals out.

the foods that are ingested have a direct effect on the endocrine system and the endocrine system governs the human body. if there is not a healthy ratio of protein, carbohydrates and fats in the diet it's impossible for the body to function normally. a diet of fast food will result in severely decreased metabolic function and would probably just about halt fatty acid metabolism until the diet was changed.
