So, I was trying to figure out why in "dogs" some really good answers got thumbs downs, when it came to me...

People that don't realize their pet dog is actually a DOG, get offended when someone tells them that. (like in the 80's when it used to be mean to call a person a dog) they get offended and throw out the downs and report flags claiming "insult to other members".

What do you think? Am i giving them too much credit? Are their unsocialized, out of control, anxiety from lack of being a dog canines actually more intellegent than them?

OH, I ALWAYS get thumbs downs in "dogs" it doesn't bother me. It is a way for me to anticipate how many out of control, unsocialized, anxiety laden canines will become my future pupils.

PLEASE ANSWER THE QUESTION! By not doing so, you are in direct Violation of the YA answers terms & conditions. If you want to talk some trash to me, do it in an email, mines not private, and I don't report people, it's stupid and childish.

OK, no I didn't get reported (before this ? lol ) I just see some really good answers (other peoples) getting deleted and reported and wonder why the really intellegent animal professionals on here (Shadow, YoLo, Artwork, Rachael Pit capn, etc) stick it out. I spend my spare time in
'football" and when it gets boring, hop over here to see whats up. I have 25+ personal years of exp. in animal industry, 3 generations of Vets, own a 200 dog kennel, train, groom, & board dogs. I do NOT breed or sell dogs so don't go PETA on me. I am well respected in every faculty of the animal industry. Funny how YA users diagree with my facts. Opinions, sure, they're OPINIONS. But disagree with fact? Thats foolish.

I think you're giving them too much credit. And yes, a lot of people's dogs are more intelligent than they are (you should try to train someone how to train their dog when the dog is the smarter of the pair!).

For whatever reason, people are incredibly sensitive about whether they are "right" about how they train/feed/care for their dogs. I think its partially due to a society that has mollycoddled the last two-three generations and every kid gets a participation ribbon. Too many people have not been taught critical thinking nor do many have the courage of their convictions and ability to stand up for them. (While I may not agree with everyone here I DO applaud those who stand up for themselves, give an honest opinion and don't skulk around giving thumbs down and reporting). You make a very valid point about the unsocialized, out of control, anxious people not only here, but in society in general.

I think the other issue with thumbs down is there are some people who just seem to attract thumbsdown faeries.

I still think it is the manner that the question was answered. Yes there are many knowledgeable people who answer dog questions on here but I think some lack people skills. It's like when someone yells at a child, they normally shut down and don't listen (especially teenagers, I know I have one) but if you explain it in facts and consequences without the harsh insults you are at least being heard then it is up to the person to do the best they can with the information provided.
I think if someone has chosen the best answer and says yeah that is what I think too, well the information that was provide was not effective, you failed to get your point across. And if it fails don't get angry just keep on trying politely.
Also consider when you type there is no facial expression and there is no tone. Imagine trying to train a dog with no facial expression and no tone.
That is my opinion.

I think it depends on the awnsers. All people who have experience working with animals are going to have a diferent method, developed through their experience. I've worked with a lot of dog trainers, and I couldn't disagree more with some of them. Does that make them wrong? I don't know.
You have to agree: When it comes to training animals there are sooooo many different aproaches, and you'll be hard tried to find someone open to them all.

Another thought, I see a ton of awnsers in the dog section that truly are wrong. The people awnsering have good intentions, but they often don't base their opinion on years of experience, just that one time with that one dog. I saw an answer the other day " Spaying your dog will stop her food aggression, animal aggression, and aggrssion towards people" this is so wrong it hurts.

The only time I give a thumbs down is when the answer provided could cause more damage to the asker.

That is part of it, also, they hate when you don't agree with them. They get defensive when your answers stray from what they think. Haven't you ever noticed that when they choose best answer, they sometimes say, "Thanks - that is exactly what I think" or something along those lines.

This is a Q&A Forum... everyone is NOT supposed to agree. I have to say that I don't agree with a lot of what is said on here, but I only give thumbs down when the answer is completely incorrect or dangerous advice.

I can't speak for everyone else, but I've never flagged anyone because that's childish and a waste of MY time.

I only thumbs down bad advice. I know my dogs are dogs, but I love them regardless. They are family members, regardless of species.

The people I thumbs down aren't the ones that realize their dogs are dogs, but the ones who don't seem to realize their dogs have souls and feelings and needs just like people do. When you take in an animal, you are responsible for it's ever need. Animals are not capable in most cases of caring for themselves. They're not accessories. They're individuals, and should be treated as such.

Actually, you are in violation. What you are doing is called "rant" and there is no question, you just want to see people agreeing with you.

Pet nuts are crazy, you should have stayed out of this category.
