My older sister owes me a large sum of money. She has not made any attempt to pay it back. What should I do to get it from her. She must think I am made of money and I can afford to just let it go.......... but Im certainly not........

You will find that loaning money to family members and friends is not such a good idea. I would suggest that you write her a letter and let her know that you value your relationship with her and feel that the money will drive a permanent wedge between you two if she does not repay the loan.

Make sure you get your concerns out in the open and also ensure that you ensure that you leave emotions out of the ordeal.

I have found that with family; sometimes you have to learn the lesson the hard way. Never never loan money to a friend or family member unless you can aford to loose it.

You're going to have to sue her - probably in small claims court. So i hope you have more than just a verbal promise from her - I hope you were wise enough to get a written promise to pay.

But this is a matter for the courts.

You need a lawyer.

Oh but you don't want to cause any problems in the family? Well, you should have thought of that before lending deadbeat sis money.

Or you're just going to have to cut your losses and not lend money again.

Take her to court. If she wont pay you back and you cant call her and she wont call you...tell her if you dont come to some sort of agreement you will have to file a suit against her. Explain you dont want to have to go that route but, you cant afford to not get your money back, she borrowed it and needs to be responsible and pay it back.

FYI never lend money to family...learned that lesson the hard way several times!!

Wow that is tough. The next time you do talk to her, talk to her about what she can afford to pay you back. Write up a promissory note with these payment arrangements included. Let her konw if she does default on this you will be forced to take her to small claims court to retrieve your money. Hopefully you will not have to take this measure. Good luck!!

It may be hard to ask a non-relative to give you back your money, but you should be able to talk to your sister and let her know you need your money. Don't just go at it, ask her how she is doing and tell her you got plans......you know the rest.

Okay first don't give her any more money write down what she owes you and give her a copy. Then tell her she needs to pay it up soon. If not you well never give her money again even if it was to save her life.

that should work good luck!

Take her to court. Why is family special? She owes, she pays.

Just tell her you need the money back...tell her she might need you again one day.... she needs to keep her credit good with you.... but I will say this.... If your sister had to borrow money from you... she has probably already ruin her own credit...so think about this the next time someone want you to lend them money
