I mean, if you think about it, Christians, Jews, and Muslims aruge and fight over stuff that happened thousands of years ago. Why not just forgive - TRULY forgive - and move on? What's happened cannot be undone, and we are not responsible now for what Abraham did or didn't do, any more than we are for Mohammad, Jesus, or anyone else. If we can never move beyond that stuff, aren't we pretty much all doomed to live in a world of fear forever?

Maybe your definition of true peace isn't possible in this reality, but that doesn't mean we can't achieve something better than what we have. War and pain and death are discouraging, but overall humans are much more successful and pacifistic than in the past. (Please note the overall, as I realize our means of destruction have become much more efficient) We have science and medicine and improved communications, and while it's a reality that there are still those who try to destroy everything out there, I have faith that life can get better, more complex, more interesting and more intelligent over time.

As far as forgiveness of the past, this takes time, and usually those who have trouble forgiving are in a position of pain. But really is fighting about forgiveness at all? I would say it's more about providing simple things like food, shelter, clothing, education and medicine to areas where war and fighting exist. There is always an economic motive behind war. Past insults and ancient history are just an excuse to take what they want or need. Killing people who are labeled 'infidels' or 'satanists' is a lot easier for people to stomach than killing them because they have the resources you want or need. It's all the propaganda of the war machine.

There can be no peace within a religious framework. It's truly antithetical to religion itself. It's the very reason there are so many different denominations within a particular religion.

Once a religion achieves a certain level of dominance it must turn on itself because it must have an enemy to fight against. If it were possible every theocracy would be a model of peaceful cooperation.

Peace is something that we must find for ourselves from within ourselves. Forgiveness also must come from within & on an individual basis. We as individuals can only do our part one by one & pray that others come to the same realization as we have.

The eternal family feud!

Can you imagine? I hate you and want your blood for something you did not do and don't even care about.

Man is such a foolish creature. We are called the higher class of animals but I don't see much class in our behaviour to one another.

Like it says right after the Lord's prayer, for if ye forgive not men their trespasses..."
You have made an excellent point. Starred, for sure.
