ecterbob, thank you for sharing. my mother would tell you that everything happens for a reason and this incident, as tough as it to find good in and as tough as it is to understand, was somehow the best thing for you at the time. if there is a heaven, i predict you make it there and can ask god yourself. i would be much more skeptical than mom, but we'd both love your honesty and compassion.

Nice question,
First of all he is powerful enough, because he is all powerful.
Second, he 'hears' every single prayer.
He doesn't always answer them the way that people want.
I think prayer requesting is more for the comfort of the people involved, and less about God, at least this is my conclusion.
There is a country song, and it's called 'unanswered prayers' I think, it pretty much says it all, "some of God's greatest gifts, are unanswered prayers..." it talks about how he prayed his girlfriend would become his wife, now he's married and in love to someone better suited for him ect.
Conclusion:
Yes he hears all prayers, yes he is worth worshipping, no he doesn't answer all prayers the way we would like, but he always does whats best for us when we ask (if your confused read some of my answers on why bad thigns happen to christians) and I think prayer requests are more for the people involved than God.

Praying for others is part of Christianity, and is encouraged by Christ. So, is feeding the hungry... but if there were no hungry people to feed ,you wouldn't question that would you .
The problem is with Christians ,just like everyone else tend to "stray" and sin separates them from the one on one relationship with God , so they ask for help . No different then if your car broke down across town , you would call someone to come help you . Being a forgiven christian, does not make you perfect , or not capable of going back to your old ways. Many do just that , and the results are them crying to other devout christians for prayer (bail money) trying to pray their way out of the destruction they brought on themselves.
It is not a prayer problem , Or, a God problem , it is a people problem . TRUE christians don't need prayer intercessors, they freely go in and out of heaven before God .
Is God worth worshiping? Well He is the only one and you and I will both be held accountable by Him . I prefer to be on his good side. wouldn't you?

Yes, God can hear one prayer, and has heard many of mine when no one else knew I was praying. But there is a power in many prayers, when they are prayed for the right reason; I can't describe the "laws" of prayer but they seem to definitely operate according to some pattern. And, as Christians, we do what the scripture says, which is to pray for each other. Perhaps some of it is psychological, the comfort of knowing others are interceding on our behalf. But it is more than that.
Seems possible that a lot of people say that prayer didn't work for them because they asked for things that just weren't good for them or were just plain wrong. For example, I do not think God would ever answer a prayer from a football fan, or 10,000 fans, to strike dead the opposing team's quarterback right before the game. (If you think that's an exaggeration, you haven't experienced college football in Alabama.)
However, many times good prayers don't seem to be answered, and I don't know why. Why didn't God answer my prayer for my first child not to die at birth? I don't know. But I believe the prayers of dozens of people are a big part of the reason the two sons who are with me were born healthy; because there was plenty of physical reasons for them not to be.
I realize you can blow all this off as just personal experience. Well, it is, and I realize that you have no reason to trust in the validity of the personal experiences of a stranger. But the prayers of others have upheld me too many times for me not to trust in their efficacy.
Wow, that was a lot more than you asked for, wasn't it? Sorry to go on so long.

power in numbers and to be honest at certain times a person can draw comfort in asking for prayer...just knowing someone cares enough in times of need...for instance, my man is in hospital with cancer...we are both cancer survivors from the past, but still having survivied it in the past does not make the worry any easier now. I am Pagan and take the healing request to the Ancient Ones, yet asked friends of different forms of spirituality to light a candle or prayer for us because I believe prayer and positive energy are universal and also draw comfort from their thoughtfulness and love..bb

7 reasons why to watch out what you say against God.
The man that built the Titanic said, "Not even God can sink it". It sunk.
Billy Graham told Marilyn Monroe God had sent him to preach to her. After she heard
what Bill Graham's words, she told him,"I don't need your Jesus". a week later she
was found dead.
Christine Hewitt (Jamaican Journalist) said, "The Bible was the worst book ever
written". In June 2006 she was found burnt beyond recognition in her car.
John Lennon said "The Beatles would be more famous than God". He was shot 6 times.
Tancredo Neves (President of Brazil) said if he could get 500,000 votes, not even
God would remove him from presidency. He got the votes and got sick 1 day before
being made President and died.
Cazuza (Bi-Sexual Brazilian Composer and Poet) during a show in Canecio, smoking
a cigarette, puffed out some smoke and said, " God, that is for you". He died at
age 32 of AIDS in a horrible death.
Bon Scott (Singer) vocalist of AC/DC on one of his 1979 songs he says, "I'm going
down, all the way down. Down the highway to hell". On the 19th of February 1980,
was found dead, choked on his own vomit.
I would rather live my life as if there is a God, and die to find out there isn't,
than live my life as if there isn't a God, and die to find out there is.

I have said all along that people feel better knowing that people are praying for them...that is pretty much the purpose of prayer request. plus, I like to pray for others. It makes me happy. So, why not? What does it hurt?
However, soliciting for it is kind of sad. you should share your burden with your fellow man, and they should pray for you, but asking for it is like asking for handouts. Do it your dang self.
