How can one be a "Mary" rather than a "Martha" when stuck in this rat race of a world? Furthermore how can one even keep a hold on what the means?

It's not easy sometimes. The fact is that sometimes we just have to get stuff done. I think what we really need to do is to set some time aside every day to just be with the Lord. Something like a one hour block of time instead of the five minutes that I normally do. OK, that's an exaggeration. My time varies from five minutes to an hour or so, but we really need to get serious about that time with the Lord. Those times when I do take an entire hour, it sets the course for the entire day.

It's imperative that you find balance between the two. I am definitely Martha, but I have grown to understand the importance of sitting at the feet of Jesus like Mary and applying what I have learned to my life. In addition to serving like Martha because there are also many blessings in that. You just have to find a balance. Pray and ask the Lord to help you find that balance. Which is very important in your spiritual walk. Hope this made sense to you-

Mary was concerned about the greater thing, the word of God. Martha, on the other hand, was concerned about worldly things, the less important. Try to keep the main thing the main thing. In today's world that is sometimes difficult. I like to refer to the Romans passage chapter 12:1,2.

One needs to be able to understand your question to try to answer it.
I assume you are referring to the sisters MAry and Martha, brother of Lazarus.
Mary sat and listened to Jesus, while Martha toiled around the house complaining to Jesus to make Mary DO something.

I think, if you are asking such a question, you are already a Mary. ;-)

in this world you need to be both - you just need to make sure you take the time from being a Martha to be a Mary on a regular basis.

obviously the people who responded above me haven't read that gospel passage yet.

Re-examine your priorities.

Remember it is written: "Seek first His kingdom and His righteousness and all of these things will be added to you as well."

Make sure the first things are first: "His kingdom".

God bless you.
