Capital Punishment is a necessary evil...It's been proven in study after study that murder rates are less in states that allow for Capital Punishment than in those that don't. It's unfortunate, but true you can research it yourself. I'd rather have controlled punishment than a Wild West/Mafia mentality out there. In other words I'd rather have the government take the life of someone who offed someone close to me than do it myself. Doesn't anyone see that chaos and revenge would rule the day without Capital Punishment? Happy Holidays!

If you want to do what Jesus said.

Matt 7:12--NIV
12 So in everything, do to others what you would have them do to you, for this sums up the Law and the Prophets.

Matt 5:38-42--NIV

38 "You have heard that it was said, 'Eye for eye, and tooth for tooth .' 39 But I tell you, Do not resist an evil person. If someone strikes you on the right cheek, turn to him the other also. 40 And if someone wants to sue you and take your tunic, let him have your cloak as well. 41 If someone forces you to go one mile, go with him two miles. 42 Give to the one who asks you, and do not turn away from the one who wants to borrow from you.

Yes, just as in today's law. The death sentence is still on the books in some states, but does that mean it's used in all cases of murder? Jewish law is administered in exactly the same way as American law. However, Christians have deemed Jewish law to be irrelevant to their lives so they only read the parts of the Torah that fits with their lifestyle.

I don't judge Christianity without ever having read the "New" Testatament. Why do you judge Judaism without ever having read the Talmud?

If you are asking if they are equal, yes they are. This is the place I have a hard time being a good christian as I think people should get what they deserve in this life and the next. I wish my faith was stronger here. If it was my child that was murdered I would seek my own justice, to my detriment I know.

Jesus says to forgive, pray for our enemies, and to turn the other cheek. It is really hard though.

People who quote Exodus 20 to say the death penalty is wrong need to read Exodus 21. The bible is clear. The command to love your enemy was made to individuals, but the government has the responsibility to protect the citizens through war and the death penalty. Read the whole bible, don't just pick out a few platitudes to fit your agenda.

Turn the other cheek...?

"Harvard Ph.D. Hugo Bedau, considered America's leading expert on capital punishment, said that nearly every year in the last century, in some jurisdiction, at least one person convicted to death was later found innocent."

I'm only in favor of it to get rid of the truly evil and dangerous people. It has nothing to do with revenge. It has to do with protecting other people.

I think Jesus negated that idea with 'turn the other cheek.'

Nonetheless, I do not agree with capital punishment.

A questions contains "who, what, where, when, why, etc..." I didn't see any of those words in your "question." It's difficult to give an answer for a random statement.

If it's wrong for a citizen to end the life of another human, it's just as wrong for a state to do so. It's the act that is wrong; not who is doing it.
