Absolutely. We do it everyday with hope. For example, a man dying in a hospital bed. The doctors tell his family he has 1 week to live. The family refuses to accept this and believe, despite all the suffering this man is going through with excruiating pain inflicted, with doctors diagnosis, with scientific evidence reporting that there is no way this man will live past 1 week. The family believes in something that isn't possible according to the stats. And within a few weeks, the man is still alive and finally checks out of the hospital. The family had hope and that is all they had. Everything else or 90% of the factors weighted against their love one. But he is alive and kicking and telling his story today.

Here's a list of some things that don't exist, yet have believers: tooth fairy, santa, atheism, an honest lawyer.
