Macintosh toffee you can buy individual bars for about $1 each
Or a candy bar that you can not get such as Aero or coffee crisp or smarties. The best would have to be as everyone has mentioned Maple Syrup or some maple candy.
You can also go to the dollar stores and purchase pins key chains pencils and small things like that for cheap that all have the Canadian flag on them. Hope you have a great trip into Canada and a safe trip home.

Maple syrup. Cheezy I know, but that's all my friends wanted when I visited them in NZ. The President's Choice syrup is inexpensive and is a lovely bottle. I think it cost around $9. Even bringing them those maple cookies. They totally loved them.
Another thing I brought them was Pacific smoked salmon. You know with the cedar boxes you can buy for cheap at Superstore/Supercentre. Maybe around $26.
Any sort of aboriginal art. I brought some Haida art with me, because I live in BC, it has extra meaning.

What about a hockey puck? It's small, cheap, easy to pack. They come with different teams or cities, etc. on them and what could be more Canadian?! Of course, maple syrup tastes much better!

Try to get something you can only get here. Maple syrup is a great idea, or maple candies. There is also Canadian chocolates, something with the flag on it, a hockey type item, a mountie thing, a moose/beaver doll.

When I went to Holland I brought small samples of true Canadian maple syrup, Canadian postcards and Canadian flag pins which my penpals loved.
